While it may come as no shock that i favour OS4 and there future plans over other choices, i for one think That Amiga.inc could do alot more for the current platform. Here we have Hyperion being almost the complete driving force when it comes to the OS and new games software for our Amiga, as it stands for me they should clearly be holding the name Amiga.inc
I have good faith that Hyperion will do a great job on OS4, that part i'm not worried about, its the lack of new titles that may not appear for it. Amiga.inc in the meantime... instead of you concentrating 99% full on with this DE thingy could instead try to get the ball moving on new software for the here and now - OS4, be it ports or brand new titles or updates to current software that made the Amiga so special. Rally round old Amiga software developers and get them interested in OS4, DE/OS5 maybe your main goal but you have to also cater for the here and now, you talk they may listen, prolly more so than us users trying to push for new development.
DE/OS5 could very well be the next big thing in the computing industry...whos knows. but what i do know is that A.inc need to shift a fraction in there current stance in the amiga market, never mind the chicken and egg crap of which comes first, thats abvious, Software sells hardware and its a big gamble to put money into the amiga market as it is but lets not do things by half, People aint gonna come back to the Amiga Market because we just have a new OS and new hardware, they will want to know what new killer titles does it have and will i be able to do this like i can on a PC, - what ya mean you don't have a capable browser? :-x
While i may not look up upon Bill Bucks companys visions i will give them credit in how active they our for there current s/w and h/w to come, they our pushing and will prolly get alot of support, this we have seen already.
OS5 is what, best part of 2 years away? in the meantime with the right drive and some proper funding for the here and now, come your main objective time you could have quite a userbase to build upon and OS5/DE may not be such a risk afterall.
OS4 Target audience: current user base and possibly the millions who have left the scene over the years. - This could be accomplished as said above, even with getting 20% of the old users back. Thats quite a user base to build upon.
OS5/DE: Everyone and his dog :-)
While i may be reaching for the stars in some peoples eyes, they our just my thoughts so no need to turn this thread into a flame-fest please...
way back to my corner now...cheers :pint:
