Whoa.. A biggie..

Thanks Wayne on making this place happen. I know we visitors (me included) have not been as nice and polite as should have been.. Not to you (and team) doing voluntary work and especially not amongst each other..

Whatever you'll do next I'll hope it'll be interesting and rewarding.

Joanna

Amiga.org probably the only Amiga site I read regularly for several years (in the wilderness?).

Thanks for keeping it going Wayne.

Hey Wayne!

Just a quick post of thanks for Amiga.org, it's a major part of my enjoyment of the Amiga over the past few years. Even when I left to get away from all the fighting, I couldn't stay away for very long.

I've met a lot of great people on here and on the mighty IRC channel, and have become involved in some great projects (like Flying Paper) through this site.

I hope your "retirement" allows you to enjoy your friends, family and Amiga hobby even more.

Good luck in the future.

This is just terrible news indeed.

It is, of course, impossible to be neutral on some subjects.....like, as a totally made up example, if I said the moon was made of green cheese, and someone else suggested its made of rocks.

Would we have to believe that the moon is HALF MADE OF GREEN CHEESE, just because one person is an IDIOT. :-)

Anyone who criticized Wayne for not being objective, is a sick son of a you know what....

I know after 8 years, that Wayne Hunt was great at what he did, and was totally professional and expert at handling the diverse opinions and even the oddball personalities (like me).

The middle between two extremes is just an arbitrary point, anyone who attempts to find the middle ground, has allowed themselves to be defined by the extremes, and does not exhibit leadership.

Wayne was a leader.  We wasn't a pro-Morphos fanatic, by any means...and he always had a fondness in his heart for the Amiga community and Amiga hardware....but he was a true leader, not a wishy washy pantywaist....and I hope, that the next leaders in this community will be so good.

So long, and thanks for all the fish :-).

D'Oh, ofcourse someone already used that (thanks a lot agafaster ;-).

Even though I'm a latecomer to A.org I'd still like to thank Wayne for starting this excellent site. Even in the good'ol days A.Org was a prime news site for me (still is perhaps? :-D).

Well, like many here, this is certainly quite a suprise.
Like a few others who've replied here, I have been a regular visitor (once a day for 2 years at least) but never really posted much, which I may one day rectify.
I hope that the family issues are not serious, and get resolved painlessly.
I also hope that you find the break good for you and use the gained time wisely :-D
Anyway, glad your hanging around still, and I hope that you always will .Good luck :-)

I've said it before: when Phoenix got started, the most vocal posters here were adamant and hostile - they did NOT want to see announcements or dialog from a movement critical of Gatemiga and Gatemiga developer relations. Wayne himself was firmly in the camp that believed in Gateway plans for the Amiga but still supported the right to post news from the rebel lands.

When I met Wayne at St Louis in 2000 there was some tension because we still seemed to be diametrically opposed. But actually the conversations eased that feeling and were interesting and friendly.

Wayne is a leader, in my book. He's set the tone, and no doubt will play a part in that wherever he goes.

Well, it's about time.

I can't say that I'm sorry to see him go, his unprofessionalism, arrogance, blatant bias and sheer rudeness lowered the tone of the whole site.

I look forward to an improved amiga.org without his corrupting influence.

I can appreciate how difficult and time consuming it can be to be a webmaster.

Everyone deserves a break from responsibility.

life has its problems and we all make decisions that change our direction to improve life.

If you are happier to be in a less demanding role then that is what you must do.  It works wonders in preventing grey hairs ;-)

Stick around though, things are just getting interesting and now you will be able to see them from a more comfortable distance.

Good luck! :-)
