Man, I really feel bad for you.

I remember when I left the old modem behind and went DSL.

I could not even imagine going back to a modem.
The thought of it makes my stomach roll around.

That's why I will not purchase an Amiga until a good DSL solution is offered.

and hopefully it will be a simple speedtouch driver so I can use the hardware that I already have.

I'll never leave bellsouth, so there it is.
It's speedtouch with an Amiga OS, or it's speedtouch with windows OS.

There is no other choice for me.

@Mountain_Myst

Actually, Earthlink beats that deal by offering static IP.

But that is true about the phone bill.  Need to get the landlord's permission before I get any DSL installed anyways.

Likely I will be going Bell South, however.

I spent about 2 years of my life with mindspring.
Heard about them from the Art Bell show one night.

I was pretty much satisfied with them...

Until they joined with some other company and became earthlink.
Everything went to crap after that.

I used to pay mindspring with money order, because that's how I pay everything.
Then earthlink stopped dealing with money orders.

Better for me though.
Now I get my DSL, phone bill, and long distance all in one statement, once a month.

Wouldn't accept any other solution personally.

Hah...

Didn't know about that.

Thanks for the info.   :-o

Same thing happened to me when I asked mindspring about Amiga support.

Heh..

Brings back memories.

Art Bell is pretty much finished now.
Sad really.
I enjoyed his radio program much more than any other.

After what happened with his son and all, it was pretty much down hill from there.

Now all the audio files that I used to enjoy so much on his site are blocked to the public.
You have to join some kind of club.

I haven't heard one of his shows in a long time.

Sad it is.

@Mountain_Myst

I hear Art Bell on most nights here, has George Norrie filling in right now after what's happened, but he does come in every so often and runs a show.

Yeah, I'm listening to George right now.
It seems that some things have been opened back up to the public.

I'll check it out.

Anyone interested in one of the best talk shows available, go to artbell.com

Nope...
It's still closed to public.

Crap!!!

I went with SnappyDSL when DirectTVDSL went tits up.  Earthlink wasn't in my area  and SnappyDSL had static IP and was Linux friendly so I went with them.  The only down portion, I had to buy my own DSL modem (I bought speedtouch from them for $99).  Oh well, I'm still pretty happy with their service which is still way beyond Adelphia's cable modem service by leaps and bounds.

Re: I want $299 Pegasos! & to slave away in Phoenix! ; }

Hey all! Though I almost feel like an evil spammer to post this in two different threads, the same hooks are there in both cases, and it is a good deal! :  } ... So. To enjoy Phoenix membership and nab and a $299 Pegasos mainboard with CPU and MorphOS and Debian Linux! - just email me with some details of ID, and dev interests. I'll process emails within a day or two of your email (at worst!) and you will be subscribed with your supplied email address to the Phoenix GENERAL and ANNOUNCEMENT mail lists, where you will be kept aware of purchase timeline details.

greenboy@nogreeneggspam-phinixi.com

The infrastructure to process requests and membership is not yet in place so we have to do it the old-fashioned labor intensive way. But Phoenix is next on the list to get a makeover for a web-integrated communication and groupware development system (though we are already testing Tiki after trying quite a few wikis, etc). We are likely to be integrating GForge as well.

We plan to make Phoenix the campus and nexus for ALL THIRD-PARTY free and commercial development under on multiple OSes for Pegasos and future Genesi products. Within Phoenix's long-held, expanded definition of "developer", anyone who is able to contribute as webmaster, content provider, financier, entrepreneur, reseller, document builder, reporter/journalist, coder, leader, etc, is ELIGIBLE. Thus the mention and the extended hand to USER GROUPS and The Scene : }

Forward Motion! Action! Newness! Coolness! Zoom! -

- Oh yeah: I have DSL here now too, 256/128 goes for $42 including taxes with static IP, using Gnet BB0050 [ethernet] modems.
