@Strobe:

"This is the only way to gain awareness outside the current pathetic Amiga market. You have to sell the whole widget in a nice little case, like Apple/Sony/Nintendo do."

Keeping in mind your description of the Amiga market, how then does it look when the company can't keep up with the demands of that market?

Food for thought.. :-o

Yes, I'm very much aware of this.

That's why I cannot understand why there is not any talk about this issue from morphos or OS4.

OS4 will be fully capable of using a driver for this modem according to thier spec sheet.
There are already thousands of these modems out.

Quick money if you ask me.

I sure hope they don't turn a deaf ear to this.

It would make thier new OS much more attractive to a lot of people, and how hard can it be to build a simple bugfree driver for it?

I've already asked bbrv about this for morphos, but recieved no reply.
Now you're gonna have to buy a brand new technology which is gonna cost hundreds of dollars.

When all they have to do is build a simple driver that is already open source.

Go figure.

In my opinion...

We don't need new answers to old questions.
There are so many things that are out there right NOW!!!

We don't need new technologies to get a base started.
That can come a little later.

We need drivers for technologies that are already out there.

I'm sick of paying way too much for buggy 3rd party hardware.
Give us great drivers for already created great hardware.

Well, as I might be getting one of these modems soon with my DSL service, there will be a bit of an incentive for me to look into making a driver, won't there?  8)

Let's see which DSL providor I go with first.  Bell South's kinda pricy.
Try blazedmongers new Free Universal Computer kit, available with the GUI toolkit Your Own Universe, the popular IT edition, Extremely Reliable System for embedded work, Enhanced Database development and Wide Area Development system for telecommuting.

:-D

BTW, we will be offering the next batch of boards through the channels we have used in the past AND through the Phoenix Developer Consortium.  The price for Phoenix members who are participating in the quasi-sourceforge relationship with Genesi is $299 for the Pegasos mainboard with CPU.

The new cases will come only with the Pegasos configured according to a certain specification.

Best regards,

R&B :-)

@bbrv

This is the BEST news I've had all YEAR!!!!!

As a phoenix member, once I get my own Pegasos boards I can actually ramp up development of a few of my projects. This new lower cost will allow me to buy more than one Pegasos, so I'll have development system.. and have an extra Pegasos to take around and show other developers around here.

Oh, and one more thing...

 :-D
"SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!"

Note: We will also be extending the same pricing to user groups through Phoenix.  Here are two examples:

ASUM

SPUG

 :-D

And, we will sponsor Demo Sceners!  Have a look at:

Equinoxe

Go Pegasos!

@bbrv

Ok ...

That's fine.

But quit trying to escape the driver issue here.

Where's the freakin' driver for alcatel speedtouch usb modem.

Till' I'm blue in the face!!!!

Three freakin' people in this thread alone that have this modem?

What's wrong with you people?

I'm really starting to believe that this issue is trying to be avoided.
Maybe there just won't be enough money to just build a simple driver for this modem.

Maybe it's best for the community to build a brand new modem with a brand new driver that we can spend 300 dollars on.

Bullcrap I say!!!

Build the freakin' driver and quit trying to escape the issue.

49.95 per month.
What other company will give you dsl for this price?

That's a great deal.

Not only that, bellsouth gives you special discounts on your telephone bill, and other special offers if you carry thier dsl.

Bellsouth Rulez.

I've had Bellsouth DSL for about 2 years now.
I was one of the very first customers.
Got the modem free and all.   :-D

In two years, I've never even once been kicked off for any reason.
It's always the same speed, and never changes.

Fast.

Why not just write to the Poseidon author and ask
him if cdcacm.class supports it?

I'm not really screaming.
Just trying to pull attention to it.

Thanks for the reply.   ;-)

Btw...
I just watched a video showing morphos in realtime, and I must say...

My interest is going up.
And now, to hear you actually say that you're working on a speedtouch driver...

Hmmm....

I really think it would be in your best interest to make a video of morphos in action, and make it available to everyone here.

Show how everything works and show different abilities of the OS on the video.

All the talk doesn't compare to a few minutes of real time video.

And please make it at least 10 minutes long.
30 if you want to.   :-)

Well...
The last released anyway.

Ahhhhhhhh fast internet for a fixed rate. I have to use a normal modem connection. And since I am online a lot you can guess my bill is really HIGH. But I need to be online so I guess I have no choice. That's what you get for living in the middle of the forest.

Man, I really feel bad for you.

I remember when I left the old modem behind and went DSL.

I could not even imagine going back to a modem.
The thought of it makes my stomach roll around.

That's why I will not purchase an Amiga until a good DSL solution is offered.

and hopefully it will be a simple speedtouch driver so I can use the hardware that I already have.

I'll never leave bellsouth, so there it is.
It's speedtouch with an Amiga OS, or it's speedtouch with windows OS.

There is no other choice for me.
