Madgun68 : They're diverting boards that COULD go to the public to this new partner.

How so?

" Genesi Announces New Pegasos Computer"

I disagree. It's a new production run of the pegasos motherboard (+revised patch chip).

Calling it a new pegasos computer feels like false marketing.

Or am I missing something?

@greenboy:

"Plexuscom, a designer and manufactures of broadband Internet access solutions and appliances has reached an agreement with Genesi Sarl to produce and deliver limited quantities of the PegasosPPC computer for release at CeBIT 2003."

I just re-read it, and now it's less clear to me what's going on. Is Plexuscom MAKING the PegasosPPC computers for Genesi, or is Genesi supplying the computers for Plexuscom?

No matter which direction, these "computers" are using boards that people in the community are still waiting to buy, are they not?

Well, I suppose it's still relatively new...and not many customers got the old board, mostly betatesters - so it's (at a squeeze) not totally unfair to call it a new product...

Oh well. In many cases, PR is just PR ... I can get over it.

I'm pretty much interested in this particular PR though. Because to me it represents a branded case with a small form factor that won't make the Pegaos board look like a deck of cards boxed in a steamer trunk. That and a product that has existed only in what I consider a bulky form factor will soon be available to me the way I want it. How's that for a concept? ; }

@ksk

Yes, you're missing something, IMHO. IIRC Thendic before only sold
Pegasos-computers to the majority of betatesters-1 (i.e. except those
like me who bought board-only). So regarding the public, regarding
end-users Genesi will indeed offer a Pegasos-computer for the first
time. Therefore - if I'm right - no lies, no false marketing.

@greenboy

LOL - you did it again...! :-)

Genesi might have delivered a product (to some people) but blah blah blah is a pretty good description of them anyway. Or maybe: blah blah FUD blah FUD...

That sounds more like it.

@Sennex

Thendic announcement: " The Pegasos will be commercially released at the Amiga+Retro Show in Aachen on December 7-8. "

Report from Aachen y2002: "Thendic-France/Genesi launched officially there the final release of Pegasos (with ArticiaS + April) and the last version of MorphOS (v1.10) with Ambient. "

But anyway,  as greenboy pointed out there is also the new slimline (STB) case for it.... so Artisia2 + new case ...

I reduce the "false marketing" just to "marketing" ..  :-P

@ksk

Correct: the Pegasos (i.e. the mainboard) was launched in Aachen. Not
a computer. So I don't see were I've been wrong. :-)

The reason why this is a big deal is because soon you'll be able to buy a whole product which is distinctly a Genesi product.

It's like comparing the Apple I versus the Apple II. Unless it has a case it's just a hobby machine :-D

This is the only way to gain awareness outside the current pathetic Amiga market. You have to sell the whole widget in a nice little case, like Apple/Sony/Nintendo do.

That's good news and all, but I believe we need an existing solution first.

Such as a driver for the alcatel speedtouch usb modem that is already installed in thousands of homes through the Bellsouth service.

I've been thinking... ( uh oh.. :-D )

In my area of Canada, Shaw Cable systems are the main (if not only) supplier of digital cable television, cable internet, and other related services. Their new flagship services are HDTV and 'video on demand' .

The HDTV & video 'on demand' box is the Motorola DCT5100 HD, and costs $698.98 Canadian$

Build on this idea...
