Most of my family are already on Facebook... one more reason not to use it I suppose.

I use it only to spread my business name everywhere. I compare it to a sexually transmittable(?) disease because everyone is the "friend" of everyone's other friends so if you do the math you have a lot of people knowing about you in a couple days only :)

Fortunately it doesn't itches ;)

Regarding Facebook, I have an account to help enfranchise Teens in today's economy utilizing the latest in Internet profit sharing tools that today's youth are so adept with in every day use.

Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. are evil incarnate as far as I am concerned. Hey little girl... wanna a cell phone? Yeah, all these things are today's candy for young and impressionable robopathic types.

C'mon... all these new and improved ways of keeping in touch are little more than commercial exploitation on many, many, many levels.  I contend that ALL of these forms of communication are counterproductive and unhealthy to say the least. People, especially young, are so socially awkward today and this cutesy electronic geeky/techy crap is for the easily brainwashed that need better direction and guidance in their lives.

Sorry to sound like an old fuddy-duddy, cause I'm not (37). I'm just sick and tired of seeing our society become more and more retarded by the day and that's exactly what governments and corporations want you to be. I'm also disgusted by all this texting and blatant cell phone abuse. And Twitter?? Nice name. Who cares what you're doing 24/7. Most people have NOTHING to say (get off the damn phone already!). They're NOT interesting in the least. Mediocrity is NOT cool and I refuse to accept that it is, despite the current agenda that seems to be winning. People with children that shouldn't even be allowed to own pets. Yep - that's our society today!

That means he wants to hook dolts at a young age, to become even more socially backward/awkward in order to maintain their dependency on shite technology.

I tried facebook once.  Yes, sir, I did.

It was fun for about one week, but after I had caught up with old classmates and friends (and realized I had nothing to say to them) the moment was gone.

After that I got annoyed by all the "Poke! Vampire bite!"-mails that I resigned and refused to come back.

Can't say I miss the thing.

facebook is useful - my brother's band just got on and it's a nice way to let people know about future shows and other info.

like anything else, if you don't know how to use it, it's a waste of your time

if you do, it's a good tool
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

Folks don't seem to realize you CAN set your security settings on FACEBOOK so the general public doesn't see very much about you at all. Only who you want to see them. I don't instantly "friend" everyone either..

I would love to hear your thought 5 years from now.

Google quite handly finds every stupid thing I've ever done online, including all the dumbass things I posted as a teenager on USENET over 15 years ago. Thankfully, none of that has come back to haunt me. The difference with MySpace, Facebook, et al is they are an accurrate reflection of how "normal" people (among whom I do not count myself) socialize in the real world. All the geeks have taken their samurai-sword-weilding-pizza-boy-contract-killing alter egos to MMORPGs (yuck, but good for them), where they can continue to be ponces without real world retribution. The rest of the world is quickly learning that the things you do online impact real people and have real consequences.
