My Amiga journey began when I was first introduced to Commodore when my Dad bought us a C=64. I think I was about 8 years old. We had that thing forever!

Then in high school (grade 9 maybe) I remember seeing an article on a computer magazine showing the A1000. The article called it the "Hacker's Computer" and it looked awsome. I had to have it! Shortly after that, I bought my A1000 off of some guy who only had it for a few months. Almost new without the new price! I can't remember what I paid for it. That computer did me all the way through high school and into university. I absolutely LOVE the A1000, especially the case design and the small form factor with they keyboard garage.

During my first year of university I bought a used A2000 and expanded it with new ROMs and a GVP 030 with 8 Mb RAM and SCSI controller. It was AWSOME! Yes, it was a tank but I was able to easily stuff things in there without any problems. My friends were amazed at what it could do and a few of them went out and bought Amigas because of it!

For 5 years, starting in about '92 I believe... I ran that A2000 24x7 running a public access BBS (CNet). Ahhh, the good old days. The A2000 crashed hard in early 2000 sometime and has sat in my basement collecting dust until a few months ago. I pulled it out and with the help of AmigaPete here on this board, it was brought back to life.

So... in conclusion, in my opinion... the A1000 was the best because it was revolutionary and had a great physical design. The A2000 comes next in my books because it was the first computer to be incredibly versatile and expandable.

@amigakid

In a very strict sense, I only had one Amiga, a Commodore A2000HD.  It was my first Amiga and I had many years of fun with it.  It never had an accelerator, but it had a Microway flickerFixer, some extra RAM, two SCSI hard drives, a SCSI CD-ROM drive and two floppy drives.  I upgraded from OS 1.3 to OS 3.1, so that I could use Final Writer.  Back in the day, I even used it for 19.2 Kbps dial-up internet access using AWeb and AmiTCP/IP.

At one time, my dream was to purchase an A3000T or A4000T.

These days, my definition of "what is an Amiga?" is a little wider.

Now I use my other machine more than the A2000HD.

A4000T of course! You can run everything on it, and expand it like hell. It's design has also had a few improvements. For example ports, including video are in separate daughter cards wich you can replace later. The sound is also better, I can get a 14 calibration file without any beeps, but for some stupid reason the level is way too low on my system...(recently made a thread here about that).
And it also has scsi2 built in, though most accelerator cards include decent scsi anyway.

I can see your point about the A1200 eslapion, but it really depends what you want to do with it. If you just want a floppy games machine then a vanilla A1200 will do nicely.

I disagree, I have tried using an A1200 for floppy based classic gaming and had quite a lot of trouble, there was very little I could do with it!
I find the best Amiga for floppy gaming in terms of fun and compatibility would be the A500, or if like me you simply don't have the room for a big A500 and power supply then the A600 which is what I use if I am classic gaming.

My favorite is the A2000 just because that's the very first computer I purchased.

I'd like to have a 1200, a 3000 and a 4000 but my Amiga hobby is on hold. I packed up my 4 Amiga 2000s and all related equipment and put it in storage about a month ago to focus my attention on other things.

It would be nice to own a piece of hardware that runs OS 4.0 but I gave up on the pipe ages ago.

The Commodore Amiga 4000T, The escom One was very Ugly in my opinion.

The second Place goes to Amiga 1200.

I would have to say:

A4000 for compatibility - it can run most older games through WHDLoad, pre-AGA machines can't compete because they can't run AGA software (obviously!) A1200 is a close second, but lacks the neatness of keeping most expansions inside the case without investing in a tower.

A1000 or A3000 for appearance.

A600 for neatness.

CDTV because it looks good in black, and because it was ahead of its time (I can imagine Commodore having released a DVD-based version had they survived!)

For me its the Amiga 3000D, but if i could decide on a dream model, that never existed, i d say an amiga 3000, with the following modifications:
-AGA chipset
-SIMM sockets for at least 32mb of motherboard ram
-IDE instead of SCSI (40 pins, 4 channel IDE with at least 4mb/sec transfer rate)
-A built-in scandoubler + flicker fixer for AGA, like the hack that uses 2 amber chips.
-A 68040 40mhz processor

I'd have to say I still love my Amiga 1000, its just still a fun computer, plus the keyboard dock is just plain out kool.  I actually love all the models with the exception of the A500+, just seemed like a wasted effort on Commodores part.  hey wait I started this forum a bit ago, lol thought it was another one:)  Oh well another post I guess

For me it's A2000B model

68000 7.14Mhz + 4Mo Fast
Super Fat Agnus + 2Mo chip
Denise ECS + Amber
Bridgeboard (Yes to run Windows 1.04 !!! )
Rapidfire scsi + HDD 1.2Go
Highway - Subway USB

Why ? because it still working fine since 19 years :-D

A3000 was fine too (great look), but weak, too weak for me!

The best has to be the A500, it's the sweet spot for classic software and was my first Amiga and the most popular by far.

My favourite would be the A1200, like an A500 but with (a bit) more grunt.  The only pity is, its potential was never really realized with software being slightly tweaked rehashes of A500 titles and many classic games being non-compatable.

WinUAE is now my favourite (unofficial) Amiga model. :-P

I like them all :-D

The A500 was the first one I had but lacked HD interface... that made me buy an A1200.

The A1200 is Ok if you don't want to expand it much. When you start to add cards it turns into an unstable sandwitch of custom cards. You have to replace the PSU... well, with a 030, an internal 2.5HD and a PCMCIA network card it's nice, but putting it in a tower makes it butt-ugly.

The A3000... well, it's certainly not for poor people. I almost switched to an A3000 years ago when I was a student and had no money. But soon I realized that I had to invest *a lot* to put it in the same level than my previous 1240/25... I had to buy expensive ROMs3.1, expensive ZIP-ram or expensive SIMM adaptors, expensive graphic cards to be able to see more than 16colours... and if you wanted something more than a crappy 030/25 or 16Mhz like mine, you had to buy an accelerator. The A3640 was crap but the cheapest one for A4000. For A3000 you may have endless problems with it so it was better to buy an accelerator with ram sockets and maybe scsi controller, as the onboard A3000 scsi isn't marvellous. The A3000 case is beautiful, but inside it's a mess: you don't have space for 5 1/4 devices and dismounting it is a nightmare. It doesn't have IDE for cheap HDs/CDs so if you wanted a CDROM you had to buy an external case! (that's ridiculous being a big box amiga, isn't it?). The PSU is quite weak too. So I went back to the A1200. Now that I work and can buy stuff I have an expanded A3000 and it's very nice and stable, but in the long run it's much more expensive than an A4000, offers less expansion and more problems.

Later I came to the A4000. It was a dream come true: AGA, stability, expansion, a beautiful case with enough space inside for 5 1/4 devices and up to 3 HDs! Simply cool! It was a pity that it could only be expanded to 16MB. It should have come with a jumper to boot in 31Khz modes as default so if you aren't into demoscene or games you could cold boot and see early menu. Or even better, an scandoubler.

Later I got the A4000T... it's clearly the best of all amigas ever produced. The case is big and allows airflow, it includes decent scsi controller and also an IDE interface for cheap HDs/CDs. More expansion than any amiga, an standard motherboard form factor for the first time in the amiga history (It's an standard AT board). Simply great.

The worst model would probably be an unexpanded A500+. It has compatibility problems with games but no HD interface or pcmcia like A600. But I like all the amigas produced. They are all special.
