If not vapour then this Power system needs to be further clarified with more detailed specs ie 60gb-500gb HDD's Memory 256mb-4gb Graphics boards but most of all for UK customers a price that reflects the exchange rate of the dollar to the pound or otherwise it will be an uphill struggle with a very reduced customer base. eg Look at Vista pricing and the resulting petition to UK Government about its pricing.

hmm...

set aside 1500 for a system that will probably never ship

or build a kickbutt pc system and run aros right now

the aros guys have been actively building this community. same with the morphos people. they deserve our respect and support.

build a morphos or aros system or run amiga forever and ban eveything else, (ok then there is minimig and similar and classic)
boycott vapor dont even give it the thread space.

crap i just did... never mind
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,
and its read only!

I actually build my brother a dual core opteron setup with 2gb of DDR2-800, two 320gb drives, kick @$$ asus sli board, nice case, 600watt PSU, 16x dvd burner, zalman cpu cooler, all for just a bit under $1000.  Now that is a setup that id pay for.  :-)

Well im not holding my breath.  I remember putting money aside for the Amiga MMC and the Walker and well when i finally decided to buy an AmigaOne they were no longer available.  Seems that until i can actually talk to people who have one and they are still being produced I'll stick with my A500, 2 A1200's, A4000 Video Toaster system and A2000, But another Amiga added would be kinda nice.

I'm continuing to simply stay optimistic about this.  My A1200 is working as it is, so I'm not complaining.

If it comes out and is worth owning, I'll buy one.  But even the low end one is nice for a hobby machine.
Amiga 3000 w/Mercury 68040 35mhz, ethernet
Amiga 1200 w/GVP Turbo+ II, and 1291 SCSI, 2mb chipram, 8mb fastram
Amiga 2000 as games machine in my living room :/

1985:huge numbers of people and businesses eagerly paid $1495 for slow (7mhz) IBM compatibles because the genuine IBM was twice that price;and Apples were even higher!

$1500 of today's dollars has maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the purchasing power of 20 years ago in most thingsa except electronics.

For a niche market product,if done well, this is really about as good as can be expected-provided it comes with updated AmigaOS and a suite of apps for audio/video at the casual  level with software upgrade to pro apps.Be nice if it would run the legacy apps.

Plenty of PPC and X86 family boxes out here for Ubuntu and other linux.

A better comparison in this case would be to compare the new Amiga to the new G5 price when it came out, and sonofabitch, the Amiga is a LOT cheaper.

Comparing a prebuilt Amiga to your homebrew PC is just ludicrous, even silly.  Different worlds entirely.

U know i dont think it comes down to comparing prices with G5's and such, I think for me at least its the fact that for the last who knows how long all we've recieved from Amiga is getting burned and the occasional announcement to get the community excited and giving money to Amiga.  Honestly, how much have you received from Amiga in the last 5 yrs thats worth a darn, maybe a T-shirt if you were lucky enough, but hey that cost you only $100.00 and a coupon that hasnt been useable and honestly prob wont be in the near future.

Can't these fricking lame companies just not release press statements and instead just make something and tell people about it when it's finished.

It's vapour until it's a working product for sale and in the hands of customers.

The Powervixxen was the last "NG" thing I got excited about.  ACK used up all their goodwill with that one.

I wouldn't consider either of these systems.  For a dollar more than the "power" system you could get a 20" iMac which has the software and drivers take full advantage of the system.  The "entry" system is way too low power for the price.  At least the PV could be excused because it was supposed to be an A1200 add-on.

Both systems (if they even exist) are pointless in two completely opposite ways.  One chronically underpowered, the other far too powerful (multi-core, 64bit, PCI-E)for the target OS to utilise.

And it's still odd that despite saying that these systems are complete (sans. monitor) why only the motherboard specs are posted, what about all the other critical components?  What size HDD?  How much RAM?  Very odd, especially considering that summer is close by (entry level system) and these things would have to starting the production process now.

I don't.It is just another stunt by Kowalczyk and instead of people being cynical. they have done the "Amiga way" and lapped it up.

Apparantly the coupons will be useable!

An e-mail I got this morning...

Greetings from Amiga;

This message has been a long time coming, but with the recent announcements of new hardware and the manufacturing to begin shortly we wanted to let all of you know that you will still be able to receive your Club Amiga discount.

The new hardware is expected to be available this summer, and we will be sending out further instructions shortly on how to redeem your discount and use it for the purchase of your new system.

For those of you who have already purchased an AmigaOne system from Eyetech, please locate any receipt that you may have for the machine.   If that is not possible then we will work with each of you so that you can also receive what is due you for your purchase and faith in Amiga.
