Apparantly the coupons will be useable!

An e-mail I got this morning...

Greetings from Amiga;

This message has been a long time coming, but with the recent announcements of new hardware and the manufacturing to begin shortly we wanted to let all of you know that you will still be able to receive your Club Amiga discount.

The new hardware is expected to be available this summer, and we will be sending out further instructions shortly on how to redeem your discount and use it for the purchase of your new system.

For those of you who have already purchased an AmigaOne system from Eyetech, please locate any receipt that you may have for the machine.   If that is not possible then we will work with each of you so that you can also receive what is due you for your purchase and faith in Amiga.

QNX seem to be using the same Mobos as Ainc announce.  Think they could be related in some way?

I find ACK's lack of a website disturbing...

And I have to agree with the statement about not putting out press releases when you have nothing to show for it.  With the history of the post Commodore Amiga, it just does sound like more vapourware.

I understand the point about comparing apples to oranges on mass produced hardware vs. more niche hardware.  The only reason I did that is because in the minds of many, that is how they will see it.

Same board as QNX?

Now that may be relevant, Amiga have said more than once that OS5 has been worked on for a couple of years now, that it does not use Tao-systems technology and will run on many hardware platforms. Is it not perhaps possable  that they have built OS5 on QNX? mmmm :inquisitive:

I know I might get flamed by the OS4 programmers and fans for writing this, but I hope you are right and Amiga Inc. has completed a great new "Amiga-like" OS based on QNX, but I highly doubt it.  Just a pipe dream and hopeless wish from one of the few remaining Amiga Enthusiasts.

I really like the QNX company and founders and have had a few emails with them over the past couple of years regarding Amiga.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

The main difference is, the ones QNX uses are real.

Pretty unlikely since McBill has also stated they are looking for someone to write the kernel for OS5. That to me indicates that McBill doesn't understand that the kernel is fundamental to the OS and that AInc. hasn't really been working on OS5 *at all*, much less for two years.

build OS5 on QNX, why? QNX is aready a very good os with out anything "built on it", this is just retarded.
anybody that has paid ANY attention over the last 10 20 years would have learned this.

1,)propriatary hardware is a bad idea
2,)open source OS prevent idiots (like a-inc) from holding you hostage!

and here I thought you guys knew computers......

the answer about why QNX and the "proposed" new amiga run on the same hardware is a SIMPLE one to answer..... becasue there is no NEW amiga.. it's just some random hardware they can sell to morons. Duh. What you think they made a new computer form scratch?  why?

This comment really show that the retard is you, first that is like saying to apple: "Build macos x on top of BSD why? BSD it´s already a very good OS" and all we know how more good and different is Macos X from BSD.

And second QNX it´s basically an embedded OS and the UI part is not as developed as any of the mainstreamed OS.So if you get the QNX kernel and put on top a good GUI and API (ie Amiga) you *could* get a even more good OS than QNX.

said this, yes, QNX is really good together with BeOS and AmigaOS the best OSs ever made IMHO
DON\'T TAKE LIFE SO SERIOUSLY AFTER ALL NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE OF IT

Please tell me you didn't just indirectly compare Cocoa with the AmigaOS API or *worse* an Amiga Inc. developed API.

I think this "power" board is way too advanced for OS4 as is.

When you read the press release, ACK say they are designing for today and the future.  Could today be OS4 and the future OS5?

Just a thought.

It's pathetic that some would rather see failure than the Amiga revived;just so they can say "I told you so"
