I would just like to throw in my 2p worth. I am new here and as my nick suggests I'm a MacNut. I just manged to aquire a working Amiga 600 and am trying to revive it. It had no PSU (I temporarily bothced a cable together to use a PC AT supply but I'm going to buy an A1200 PSU 'cause the AT supply I have is bigger than the A600!) or mouse and I have zero software. Being a pervayor of old Macs I'm used to scraping about for info and stuff to get old machines working. I'm impressed by th ingenuity of this community - you lot put the Mac guys to shame, we can't even get anyone to develop a 68k USB interface

Anyhoo, on the subject of Apple, I'd just like to sat I have a PowerMac G3/400 in one of those sexy blue cases and it's a really good machine. I do, however, get pissed off by the fact that despite *looking* like they use PC hardware many Mac cards need Mac Firmware which automatically give comanies the license to print money out of our pockets. I was delighted to hear the AmigaONE is able to use a large proportion of PC hardware 'out of the box' with only drivers needing to be developed. It's a damn good idea and a champion way to beat PCs at their own game.
Oh and BTW Apple are still making a profit after all these years of everyone saying they were going down the pan.
Another thing is they are set to use the IBM Power4 to replace the PowerPC i the next 3 years. I don't think, good though it is, everyone should get too enthused about getting the new G4 Amiga to use AltiVec. It's great technology but Motorola own it and are about to pull the plug on their PPC lines as they want to concentrate on developing a 64-bit CPU to compete with intel, AMD and IBM. If they pull the plug they will do one of 2 things. Either they will sell AltiVec to Apple so they can emulate it on the Power4Macs or they will refuse to lisence it altogether. Either way I see Amiga users stuck in an awkward jam if they depend on AltiVec being there...
