Argh! Make it stop!
« on: January 11, 2005, 10:14:27 PM »
For the best part of a week now the weather here in Manchester has been somewhat rough, the wind reaching gale force pretty much every night :-(

I happen to live in a flat (apartment), conveniently fifteen minutes from the shops, cinema... and the ground

Anyway, each night the wind has howled viciously, making a dreadful racket whilst I'm trying to sleep. It's relentless, from about 10pm right through till 7am. The stronger gusts make the building thrum perceptably.

Are there any tried and tested 'sleeping in a noisy environment' methods you guys have?

It's making me nuts :-x

Alas I have been T-total for over 10 years now. Still, even if I wasn't, I do need to be able to get up for work the next day ;-)

Thanks pet, but I'm not sure I see how a putrid sock full to the brim of another man's dried up reproductive juices will help...

From what I gather, it's so hard - you could hit yourself on the head with it   :-D

True, but I could just as easily use a length of two by four...

As for the wind, think yourself lucky - it's just blown 15' of my fence away.  Bugger.

Of course, you could also use the sock to knock yourself out by wetting it slightly and taking a good wholesome whiff. And just pray unconciousness overtakes you before the inevitable extreme gag reflex causes you to hurl so hard you cough up your underpants

Man, another thread turned sock...

Now imagine you live about 50 metres up in an area with no other tall buildings in a 3 km radius to break up the wind.

I can actually see my light slowly precessing in a small circle, probably caused by the building swaying slightly. Given the age of the building and the doubtless corners cut in erecting it, I can hardly say that thought fills me with confidence :nervous:
