I'll pipe in too....
I didn't start on an amiga, and was amiga only, for only a short period of time... I cut my teeth on a TI-99 4/A, wrote 3 games for that machine (advanced basic)...
I had a TRS-80 Model III (basic programming), and an Atari 400, 800 (more basic programming).
Had an Atari ST (switched to pascal).
Eventually got an A1200 (C language). I liked the Amiga community, it was the last bastion of what home computing was about....
but 5 years ago (how time flies now)...I sold that A1200, 060/50mhz...and got a very old used, powermac 6100, which was a nubus mac, but how it flew for web browsing compared to the miggy....
Eventually I got a G4 Mac when they were outrageously expensive I bought a top of the line G4/500 and overclocked that to 550....woooo I was king of the world... (never programmed it a bit, just did 3d rendering and animations)...and then I lost everything...and then I started over.
Currently my only pc is a PII/400 (C# programming), but I am ready to buy....just sitting around waiting....but I won't be wasting any money, thats for sure...
after the first and hopefully last bankruptcy....don't plan on wasting even a single dime going forward...Amiga's have always been expensive...so its a bit of an issue with me.
I'm not concerned in the least bit about someone else's need to make a profit. The only way someone's getting an extra dime from me, is from my cold dead hands.....hehehe.....but I digress.
Ahhh, its fun to reminisce...did a lot of hardware projects too, anyone remember having to build the ring detector because the modem didn't come with one?? I had a cheap atari 400 modem like that...(300 bps!)
I don't find the PC, to be a paperweight, because you can do development work, learn OpenGL....even a linux box would be good enough, but I think windows is a bit more fun the Linux....I know its hard to believe, but despite my penchant for different and exotic, Linux comes off as dry and boring to me, I'd rather use windows....
