@kennyR:

 Your perception of the dog is one I can relate to. Cats rule ;-).

Nothing worse than finding a freshly laid steamy doggy turd on your front lawn in the morning. IMHO, people who fail to pick up their dogs sh!t should be dragged out into the street, made to eat a dump truck full of dog sh!t and then shot...repeatedly... :madashell: :madashell: :madashell:

Finding an insensate drunken chav lying there would be on a par.

Hmm, thinking about it, (other than size), how would you tell the difference?

Hmm, round up all the chavs everywhere and shove 'em someplace surrounded by at least a thousand km of ocean and then put a nice fusioncracker display on for them ;-)

A few megatons of chav vapourising entertainment for all the family

...I can feel it coming...

...must ... resist ...

muhhahhaaahaahaaaaaaaa!

Yep. Evil little whores. They only want food and stroking. What does a cat give in return?

A dog will be genuinely pleased to see you when you walk through the door, a dog will defend you if it thinks you are being attacked, a dog will know when you are upset.

You obviously don't have much experience with cats (or maybe the wrong cats).
Sure, they are much more independant and not as needy as dogs (by far), but when I still lived at home (I can't have pets where i am now :-( ) the cats would come and greet me all the time, even jump into my arms at times, so that's just FUD you're spreading  :-P
And you know that sound they make when you stroke them? That's called a pur, dude, and that means love :-)

I've had a few dogs in my life that I've enjoyed very much, but I can't see myself getting another one, they're just so stressful and needy (and dumb :-D).

@TPG

I really feel for you, it's not easy leaving someone you love, be they human or not

Hmm, smiley overload ... oh well  :pint:

If I were you, I'd begin with looking nearby (or well, in the UK that is..)
This way, less fuss, less money spent, but probably with the same result :-)
I suggest a student's city.. I mean, a city with an university (maybe Aberdeen?)
but let's discuss this rather in the punkie goes america thread..

Well... I want to go to America anyway, 'cause I have friends there. So it wouldn't be quite the same result, even though there are cool people in Aberdeen. :-)

The only place I've ever felt like I belong to is Scarborough. I've been thinking I'll head for there when I come back.

Yup, my sis is going to live there with her friend for at least 3 years, to study/work at the university (that's also why it came to mind)
She now lives almost next door and I am often going to her place or going out with her in the city, so...
I'm going to miss her

anyhoo, it seems you made up your mind
Do you already know about how and what 'bout this?
I really hope it turns out to be a wise decision 'cuz I like you :-)

I am on Team Cat for the following reasons:

1) A dog only licks your face because one minute earlier he licked his testicles.
2) A dog is only loyal to you because you're his personal janitor/mobile pooper-scooper.
3) Dogs slobber.
4) They hump legs, fluffy toys and boots, and even more embarrassingly they sometimes are a bit too 'knowing' about womens' personal once-a-month issues.
5) Cats don't bark.
6) Cats don't stink.

@ Punkie: leave your dog with a trusted friend, a good home, and get a nice pussy in the US.

But cats do stink and cats can make continuously awfull noise during spring

Let's say: I like certain cats and certain dogs.

Hmm, I've always found our cats had a very pleasant natural shampoo or soap like smell (and no, they hardly ever got washed), as opposed to most dogs.
