If I had unlimited funds, I'd buy IBrowse.  Unfortunately, I don't, and $55 US is on the high end of expensive game software.  If I'm spending near that much I'm planning on getting Payback before that, and the deathbed vigil.  Not to mention still trying to gather funds for the AOne.  I would have to agree with the earlier post that $35 would be a more appropriate price point for a browser.  I think Opera retails for $39, and it is far more advanced, of course.  Obviously, the lack of a JVM is not the IBrowse people's problems.  That should be an issue the OS developer should take care of, or Sun, not that Sun gives a flying flip about the Amiga.

Right then,

I'm off to register it NOW.

No holds, straight to their site click & go!

More of us should just do it, Nike style ;-)

javascript doesn`t DO much...

Javascript is used a LOT by a large number of corporate sites and a huge number of smaller ones.  However, many sites are badly coded so that they don't work without Javascript as they do dumb things like code the links in JS when they should be straight HTML.

I registered before.  No smilies or quotes.  But look at Apple.com  WOW!  That page never worked on ANY amiga browser I tried!  Sorry for the terseness, still in pain.
Now featuring new and improved G4 AmigaOne, with Mozilla!

I had to patch IB myself. Just serach for the string "IBrowse/2.3" and replace it with "Mozilla/4.0" :hammer: and save the file under "Mozilla".

I now have two icons on WB (IB + Mozilla), Mozilla for the sites that needs it. (Yellownet in Switzerland)

@Nick

Not registered, because I've registered AWeb (before open source) and Voyager.  At the time, for each product, it was the best decision.  I get the feeling that at $55 they are trying to PUNISH those who would otherwise register.

Maybe I wouldn't be so condesending on the product if for the $55 it had everything it needed, but it does not.  I'm not talking about the lack of a JVM either.  JS isn't up to par, no CSS, spoofing is handled very well, no Flash, etc.  Sorry, for the amount of money they want IB needs an upgrade badly.
Regards,
Targhan

"I read your next post aswell. I actually have a program in c: called flushlibs. No need to reset. A minor thing I know, but it saves me a few seconds ;)"

And even standard "avail flush" might do it :)

And about the IB2.3, I just love it and I was happy to pay 35e for the update from 1.x. 55e would have been fine too... I'd rather spend it on good app (which you use every day) than some game for example (which you might play once through and then it's forgotten to shelf).

when does it support flash? nice page have flash, but the new version of ibrowse does not support. If it came with OS4.0, i think that the Os must have a browse that supports flash.

:(

When macromedia decides to port flash to amiga?? They barely develope for linux, so doubt we will see flash support in near future...

I'm a little bit bemused regarding the fuss over price.  Anyone would think the price has gone up, but it hasn't (ok, the upgrade price is slightly higher now).  I realize people have forgotten what IB2.2 sold for, as it's nearly 3 years ago, but until not so long ago  HiSoft were still selling IB2.2 for £34.95.  Now, from IOSPIRIT, IB2.3 costs £34.09.

check out
/opera

for version 7 they are asking USD 39 with a student discount of USD 20.

opera is one GREAT browser (i'm using it now!) and i downloaded it for free (just been using it for about 2 days). it has ads unless you pay for it. the ads don't botherme, and i will probably pay for it eventually. i also got the linux version for whenever i may get linux able to get online.

anyway, i did pay for AWeb and if IBrowse is good, i am willing to pay for that as well. for when i get WinUAE installed!

paying for programs is worth it sometimes!

Hi Cecilia, I use Opera for mostly everything on the PC. There are a couple of IE-only financial sites that won't allow Opera to open, but in most cases Opera does the job of IE in half the time.
I believe that some years ago the Opera team were making a version for Amiga, but the job was dropped when the market died.
Maybe we can look forward to a resurgence of interest in the Amiga and maybe even a version of Opera for the Amiga (hope, hope).

How exactly did you do this?

(Excuse me if someone has already mentioned this, I haven't read all the responses)

With the new Ibrowse you can log into Amiga.org!

While I could get onto Amiga.org and read news with Voyager and AWeb, I couldn't actually log-in for areas like this before.  And I'm just using the demo version!
