Workbench won't display non-iconed files
« on: June 25, 2004, 11:53:12 AM »
Hmm. Have OS 3.9, decent WarpEngine, Cybergraphics on a CV64. When I have files in ram: (or any other device) and I open the device via Workbench, no matter what I select, View All, By Name, By Icon, etc, if the files do not have an icon and are not directories, they are not displayed in the window. E.g., when Ram;: is opened and I choose Show All, I see icons for ENV: T:, etc but no file icons.

I took everything out of user-startup and WBStartup, checked startup-sequence for non standard thingys, to no avail. Ideas? I haven't mucked around with Cybergraphics yet, so that may be the way to go. It took me a lot of frustration to get CG working properly (get the right version and RTFM, dork!) so I haven't tried anything...

Thanks to all you helpful guys out there.

Default icons are taken from envarc:sys/def_xyz.info, where xyz is the file type defined in DefIcons prefs. Without DefIcons running only Disk, Tool and Drawer count.

Check that these files are real icons (load them into IconEdit). Also check that these icons have the correct type (disk for def_disk.info, drawer for def_drawer.info and tool or project for all others). There are also some called def_.info where is DF0 or PC0 or RAM or so, these have to be of type disk.

Bye,
Thomas

Hoya!

If you use NewIcons, have you set it up properly?

Besides, I think there can be problems if you use it with a GFX card.

There are an option called "View by name" but that doesn't show files with no icons, it only lists them.

You shall choose "Show" and in the undermenu you choose "All files". It defaults to "Only icons".

But, without those files being there, WB should show them as white icons with a folded corner.

@ HotRod

Why is it that some people don't seem to actually READ the message before replying?

@ mgerics

Before wasting a lot of time fiddling with the CGX settings, test to see if it's a CGX problem in the first place.  It's easy enough to move your CGX monitor file into Storage and boot into Workbench using a native screenmode.  If the files still don't appear when you select "Show-->All Files" then its NOT CGX.  But if they do show up, then you know it IS CGX and THEN you can start the arduous process of fiddling with all the CGX settings.

   Hope this helps.

Got it! I had Elena's Powericons running in startup-sequence. I was sure this wasn't happening before, but oh well...thx for the comments, folks.

Hi

Install the latest PI 1.06 that shows a frame on 8 bit screens. (and others upgrades/fix) and a NEGATIVE effect for selected icons.

Ciao
