Hello again!

Your help is very much appreciated...

Ok, I have already tested the AHI output in Amplifier, but I have missed the mixer thing... :) I will test it tonight.

By the way, I followed your description about installing SFS, but it seems to refuse to work on my amiga... Well for now I have one 1,9GB partition with FFS and the rest of the harddrive remains unpartitioned until I can get the SFS to work.

I did exactly as you described, and the drive shows up and seems to work, but as soon as I try to create a directory on the new partition the AOS freezes. I can still move the mouse but nothing happens when I try to click on things on the WB screen.

Erm, "your" does not refer to me, does it ? I cannot remember any such description. Could you point me to it, so I can check it.

Bye,
Thomas

I guess he mixed you up with me :-) I wrote a step-by-step guide on installing SFS onto a harddrive for him.

The post he is refering to is this.

[EDIT] The guide is approx. in the middle. [/EDIT]

Hello!

Sorry to mix you two up...  :-)

It was doctorq that described the SFS installation.

Ok, I'd also do the following:

On the "Change..." view, change Mask from 0x7fffffff to 0x7ffffffe and change MaxTransfer from 0x1ffff to 0x1fe00.

Also I wouldn't first install the OS on an FFS partition and then change it to SFS, I'd create SFS partitions at once. Create an emergency disk, copy pci.library to it, then boot from it. If it works, copy SmartFileSystem to it. Now use HDToolbox to partition your drive. You may also want to copy the latest HDToolbox (that from Boingbag2) to a floppy disk, so you don't have to fiddle around with the Heads/Sectors/Cylinders values by hand. (I think there is not enough space on the emergency disk for HDToolbox, so it has to be a seperate disk).

Oh, if your HDD is connected to the FastATA, you also need fastata.driver and fastataprefs in order to deactivate the split mode.

Bye,
Thomas

@Thomas

well, actually a matter of what you find the easiest, isn't it?

I think the easiest way to install it is the way I descriped, as I can do it without using any floppy disks.

As the needed software only takes about 5 MB (OS3.1, SmartFileSystem, file handling program) the time needed for copying is less than 2 minutes, and the formating of the Workbench partition is also pretty quick.

But then again, it all comes back to what you find the easiest :-)

Hello!

Well, I copied the mixer program from the CD from Elbox yesterday and run it, but all sliders where dimmed. I could only change the volume. There was no sound. There must be some sort of missing files somewhere. I will do a new installation from scratch. I will not install SFS at this time. I will do it in this order:

* Install OS3.9
* Install BB1
* Install BB2
* Copy allegrocdfs to my L: dir
* Copy the CD3 mountlist to DEVS:Dosdrivers
* Install MUI V3.8
* Install Picasso96
* Install AHI 4.18
* Install Mediator drivers from the CD from Elbox
* Install Sounddrivers from the CD from Elbox
* Install Networkdrivers from the CD from Elbox
* Install Graphics drivers from the CD from Elbox
* Install the Mediator_UP_39 files from Elbox
* Install the MM_CD_UP1.25 files from Elbox
* Rename the Cybervision 64/3D to Voodoo
* Change the Boardtype in Icon Information from Cybervision to Voodoo
* Start the picasso96 prefs program and create my screen modes
* Start the AHI prefs program and select my sound output
* Start Mixer and adjust the volume
* Start amplifier and change output to AHI
* Play mp3, and I should hear sound, right???

Looks good to me. Do you have loudspeakers connected to the sound card ? Do you also have speakers connected to the Amiga audio output ? Does Amplifier play sound if you choose Paula in AHI prefs ?

Thomas

One more question: which modes does AHI prefs offer for the sound card ? AFAIK for Amplifier you need one which ends in "++".

And another idea: do no set the frequency in AHI prefs higher than 44100 Hz.

Bye,
Thomas

There is a lot of modes to choose from in AHI prefs which refer to my Soundcard, the FM801 (I think). I have tested some different modes, and I have tested the "...HIFI stereo++" mode both on lower frequencies and higher frequencies.

And yes, If I connecte my speakers to the A1200 original soundoutput and if I select some paula mode in AHI prefs, I can hear the sound that Amplifier generates. But as soon as I select some FM801 mode in AHI prefs, and connects my speaker to my soundcard there is no sound at all even if amplifier is still playing.

It was really silly. For some reason I can't see the checkmarks, either in HDToolBox or in the Mixer program. So, because I could not see the checkmarks of the mute box in the mixer program I never pressed it. But now when I reinstalled everything I pressed the mute button, and suddenly there was a very LOUD song coming from the speakers, the volume on the speakers was nearly on full volume...   :-)
