Taking the plunge
« on: April 12, 2018, 09:31:20 PM »
For all of the years I've had any association with the Amiga I've always owned the entry level stuff. A500, A1200 and then much later, a Micro-A1.

In the long interim, I was absent for the formation of color factions, but after reading through Jeremy Reimer's articles, the one bit of knowledge I'd never known was how Mr. Dickinson became a figure in the community. I found it pretty inspiring.

Since I've been toying with this idea already, I went ahead and got something new. It showed up today. A big thanks to the guys at Amiga On The Lake, and certainly the Amiga community. Hopefully I'll have time enough to make something fun with it.

Congrats!

Aaron at Amiga On the Lake is terrific to work with and I got my board, sound card and video card from them in December.   I went a bit crazy with the case and went with the Corsair Crystal White 570X -- but then again the Amiga deserves a bit of class!  Anyway building the X5000 system was very fun and it has worked flawlessly.

I had an A1000 and A2000 when they were new, but (sadly, now in hindsight) sold them to a friend and moved on.

Since then I have come back and have obtained a 500 and 1200.  They are fun too, but there is something reassuring about the X5000 and it just seems to fly.

Enjoy!

I agree about the case, and I've been looking. I've had an experience recently with the Fractal Design Focus case (in blue) and while it was a little thin for my taste, it still looks great, so I went with the red one for this build.

I did the same thing with my older machines. They were sold long ago, and I started picking back up. I've had the 1200 for maybe 6 years and picked up the Sam440 a couple years ago on a whim. Sadly it's graphics options are really limited so that made the choice to get something bigger that much easier.

Believe me, I debated for quite some time. I have a lot of other items I've been letting go to help fund this effort. In fact, I should probably let the Sam440 go now that I have this one. Any takers?! :)

In other words you will never get one? Because you have a better chance of seeing a unicorn in your backyard

Congratulations on your purchase, health to enjoy!

I hate to have to agree with magnetic, but I%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;ve been waiting for SMP since 2012...
The license for it that came with my X1000 is now sadly the modern equivalent of the Amiga Inc $50 off voucher.

Hyperion have royally screwed AmigaOS4 development. If it wasn%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;t for dedicated indie devs and the A-Eon Enhancer Software Package, I would%&$#?@!%&$#?@!%&$#?@!8217;ve lost interest and moved on years ago.

I'm not terribly concerned with what might not be enabled on the board, because it's got more options than the Sam.

Enjoy.

I got my x5000 back in October. It's a nice machine. AOS4.1 FE has given me issues i.e. Random lockups, Gurus, etc.

I recently installed MOS 3.10 on a spare drive. It's fast, polished and just works!
