Just purchased an x5000!
« on: September 15, 2017, 10:42:23 PM »
Missed out on the x1000 systems, but I'm making up for it now.

I can't wait to get my hands on an AmigaOne system!

I hope you find the RAM speed fast enough. This chap 'tlosm' (see link) on Amigaworld is having kittens having tested it against a Apple G5 Quad Tower! Hopefully, the P5020 is fine for AmigaOS use and the P5040 will remove any remaining grievances the benchmark obsessives have ;-)

Congratulations!

There is nothing better then to run OS on hardware it was made for. Enjoy and keep us updated.

I hope you will like it. I'm still staying in "classic" world, building my own "Red ONE" ;).

You will like it a lot, but the Sound card you get MAY have the buggy chip on it. The SIIGs he included are good for ony one rev, and you have no way to know if its a bad one or not.

I put in a Soundblaster Live PCI (Model SB0200) I got for $7 and its perfect. MUCH better audio too. Its been playing all day now as of today and not a single issue or lockup as I was getting before.

I have been getting some lock ups from time to time playing videos. Do you think my sound card is also the issue? I thought it was Odyssey for the longest time. I might have to get that Sound Blaster too. '

Congrats on the x5000 by the way. I use mine everyday...

If you can find one, a sound card based on the VIA Envy24HT chip is a better alternative.
I picked up a Chaintech card that's sitting in my PC waiting for my eventual purchase of an X5000/40.

BTW - Does anyone have experience using a Radeon HD 6750 in an X5000?

If you have that same SIIG mini sound card I would bet it is. Get the Soundblaster I linked before they are gone. Aaron just ordered 10 of them too.

They are all like new. I couldnt even tell if the one I got was used and dont think it ever was.

Thanks for the link for the SB.

I have had my X5000 since Nov last year and the sound lock up and the poor USB support is probably only real issue I have had had.   I have read all the blah blah its the chips or the cards.  I am pretty sure its the driver, as software engineers have been working around hardware bugs since the first computer.

If a $7 dollar investment fixes Ill take it(Not like a lot of advances in sound).

I don't want anyone to take my comments as criticisms or complaint as I get it when there is only a few hundred machines in world we make do as it is a hobby and we all move the boing ball foreword.

This thread helped me out with the soundcard issue. The lack of sound and the lock ups were driving me insane. Replacement of the card has got me using the machine again. :)

Amiga on the Lake was receptive to the issue and offered a replacement sound card to me however I had already took care of it for a few bucks through ebay.

Does the SBlive Model SB0200 need drivers? Do you just plug and play?
