Heeellp!!!
« on: March 05, 2004, 03:07:07 PM »
Hi to all,

I am installing OS 3.5
I had to start with a fresh disk because my old one died ...
Couldn't recover it ... (misteriously lost it's RDB).

My original OS 3.1 floppies are broken and some files got lost (even the backups!) but after a nightmare I manage to install OS 3.1, and PRE Install 3.5, my problems start when I try to install OS 3.5, because it starts fine but when he reaches 30% it stops there and does nothing else but displaying 'Preparing icons'.

Please Help me! I'm really desperate ...

BTW my configuration:

A1200T
Blizzard MK IV 030 50 Mhz, 882 50 Mhz 32 Mb SIMM
kickstart 3.1 ROM
40 Gb HD partitioned in 10 and using idefix97
CD ROM 52x
Buddha Flash ZII (system boots from there)
Busboard Micronik ZII
Silver Surfer

thank you,
Omni

You'll have to get a fresh pack of Workbench 3.1 install disks from any Amiga store near your area or you can order from the mail-order houses in your state/province.

The stores I use are Software Hut and Compuquick-Amigadirect.

Good luck.

how long have you waited ? It took about 5-7 minutes once.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Hi,

Thanks for replying I left it for hours, and not onyl that I switched motherboards, and got the same response!

same error, really weird .... I don't know which part of the operating system is afected by this part of the installation ... icon.library ? or some other libs ... really don't know ... but need HELP asap ...

Please don't tell me to buy anything because I'm very short, I have to deal with the stuff I already have and that's it.
I just need a solution, or a tip that lead me to one ...

thank you,

Well remembered, put those on floppies and install using them.

Listen to your CD drive while it's installing, I remember having a few probs during that part of the install where the CD drive would wind down because it hadn't been used for a wee while, then when the installer had to read from the CD again, the drive would spurt, then spin up and do nothng.

As a quick fix (if you could call it that) I ejected the drive when the "positioning icons" came up, then when it tried to read from the CD a requester popped up saying to insert the CD, I just popped it back in again and it finished the install.

I never did figure out why it did that, but the problem went after a while.

--edit--

When I had that problem, I was using IDEfix'97 with a 52x drive to install onto a 500Mb partition on a 2.5Gb drive.

That I wasn't aware of since I used my original 3.1 install floppies I still had stored in a safe place.  Thanks for the reminder.
