Have fun with your awesome machine. I played with an x5000 at amiwest its pretty awesome. I think AOL needs to really really package these things extra careful, especially with ups which has no external oversight like USPS

btw its cool you dont know much about amiga NG we are here to help! No question is stupid so ask us for anything :)

UPS beat it up and broke the bezel on the front of the case

Ugh, sorry to hear that! I always say, whenever shipping any sort of stuff like this, if it were me I'd use about 1,000 feet of bubble wrap. No such thing as too much, lol. ;)

Hope you're able to get everything resolved!

So for now ordered a new 8169 based NIC and will try a different one as someone else I knew had same type of issue and he replaced his card and was online.  Hoping that cures my issue too.

Where did you find 8169 boards?

Amazon.  Its a rtl8169sc chipset based NIC.

Buddy of mine that also just purchased an X5K purchased the same card, tested, and sold the issue we were both having.

So I will see if it cures mine too.

If that card works, can you please post a link or NIC brand/model info?  I am seriously considering getting an AmigaOne X5000 and start writing programs for it.  After 20+ years of DOS,Windows,Web and database programming, I want to work on something completely different!

Well Ken Lester is already using this card.  So it should but I hope to know by tonight as my card supposed to be delivered today.

Thing is the card that came with my X5K, a 8139 based, should be working too.  They work for Aaron's X5K.  Not sure if anyone else is having my issue or not.  Ken Lester was and he had a different 8139 than I.

Could be my 8139 is just a bad card.  These cards are uber cheap these days so I would bet some are just bad.  I made a joke that it seems some of the NICs are from bubble gum machines they are so cheap.  :hammer:

Hoping this Protronix that I have coming does the job!

And of course you have configured your X5000 to use this card instead of the integrated NIC on the motherboard?

Yes.  On-Board Ethernet does not work with Amiga OS.  :)

OK, I wanted to update everyone.  My network card that shipped with my X5000 seems to work just fine.... I have not had any issues... at least in the VERY limited use I have had with the machine.... I can shut it off, reboot, everything, and networking comes back up.

Now, I just need to learn how to actually use it.... once I sit down for more than 10 minutes at a time, I plan to try a clean install of the OS, just for fun, and then try to learn a few things...

How is everything else working on yours @Amigasociety?

Installing of my new Protronix NIC solved my network issue so can only guess since Slygon's NIC is working, my AOTL installed NIC must be a defective one.  The new Protronix 8169 based 10/100/1000 NIC plugged in and worked right away.

Registered my Amiga OS at Hyperion and my Enhancer at A-Eon and downloading updates as we speak.

Just have to get my damaged case rectified and then I should be at 100%.  Guess I will have AOTL send me a new 8139 too since mine appears bad.  Maybe just have as back-up.  Would be nice though that we can scrap these NIC and get to use the on-board ethernet one day soonly.

Anyway, getting my X5K built up the way I like it.

@Amigasociety

Did you do a clean install of AmigaOS, or leave it the way it was from AOTL?  Also, is there any reason to install the official Update 1?  It obviously just came out.... but it sounds like there is nothing new in it for X5000 users.... but I know our OS is considered a Pre-Release.....

Now I need to figure out what browser to use.... The two default ones are fairly old.... I know new ones exist..... now I need to find them.....

X5000's already have Update 1 installed.

download latest Odyssey for OS4.1 as that's the best we got right now.

Yes, did a re-partition to sizes I like and re-install.

Would not have done it right away but since my NIC was not working, and figured could be an OS issue, I decided to pull the trigger and do a fresh install.

Hyperion is saying we don't need to update so I am just using what AOTL sent me on CD.

For sure Odyssey 1.23r4 is the best thing to get.

So sorry to hear about the damage amigasociety. You're super happy there's no other damage other than the case?
