Received tracking # just now.  Shows the 30th as I expected.  So, hoping UPS is nice... gentle... and gets it here next Friday so I can drink booze, eat like an oinky, and play Amiga OS 4.1FE on my X5K.

Has been 5 years since I purchased my X1K (Dec 2011) and since selling it 1.5 years ago, been missing out on enjoying Amiga.  Even though I was not an Amigan prior to 2010, for whatever reason, getting one again (like the X5K) is exciting.  Not quite 1980/90s computer exciting but exciting never the less.

Back in the 80s/90s it all seemed to fresh.  Now a-days, computing is not as exciting, but the Amiga platform has come close to bringing some of that excitement back for me.

I can get behind that, when the Amiga was current I was working with other 68K hardware and still actively involved in 8 bit projects (which come to think of, I've never stopped).
But Amiga related computing can be more interesting than the sterile 'modern' appliance orient stuff I use day to day.

Interesting, when I received my X1000 in December 2012, a few days before Christmas, It took just 3 days to arrive from Cardiff, Wales, UK.  Why on earth would it take more than twice as long to arrive from upstate New York ?  Anyway hope you enjoy the X5000.  Would be interested to know how you think it compares to your old X1000.

Could be worse, it just took about two months for a package I shipped via Priority Mail International to get to the recipient in South Africa (the USPS quotes 10 days).
Although, Wales to the US in three days is just plain remarkable.
I'm happy when I get a package shipped to Germany in under two weeks (short of being dumb enough to pay for the massive fees required to overnight ship a package).

Six days to truck ship a computer system in the middle of the holiday season?
Why would you think that was unusually long?

Because from UK to NY it was air... one day.  Then UPS Ground or Fed/X ground from NY to NY is only a day or two.  Has to get through customs too.

Different when it is UPS Ground all the way from NY to CA.  5 days plus Monday is holiday, Christmas, so guessing UPS is closed.  So Friday it is.  hehe

But AmigaKit does have great rates for shipping from UK to USA.  That I can agree with.

@amigasociety

I have my tracking number too!  Same thing... the 30th.... and I agree, I hope UPS takes care of it as it moves across the country!

I won't be home until Sunday, so I expect to hear how your experience is before I get a chance to play with mine!  I haven't been this excited about a computer in a while....

I have a lot to learn on the Amiga.... I just have no real direct knowledge of them.... I went right from the Commodore 64 to PC then Mac... skipped Amiga completely....... always wanted one..... now I will!

Prior to 2010, I never was an Amigan.  1980s Atari 800.  1990s Atari Mega ST.  Mid 1990s and on Mac.  2010 got the Amigan bug.  Still a newbie even after 5 to 6 years playing Amiga but did learn some.  Wish there was a really good Amiga OS Bible but hoping the books from that europe folks that have that 4.1 Emulation book make an Amiga OS 4.1 FE book.  That would be sweet.

But I know some now and can get by OK in Amiga-land.  Sure you will to.  ;-)

My AmigaOne X5000 arrived!  It was delivered on the 30th, just as the tracking stated.

I was out of town until last night, and now I seem to have caught a nasty cold.... so I haven't even turned it on yet!  I just barely unpacked it, everything looks fine, I hope to at least give it a "First Boot" later this evening.  I am usually much more excited about stuff like this.... but this cold is kicking my butt!

@Amigasociety - Did you get yours?  How is everything working for you?

Quick update:  I have my X5000 plugged in and running!  I am using it to type this post!  I have a LOT to learn... never really been an Amiga user.... as I have stated earlier, I have just used emulators etc... but it works!

Of course... I found out that these things don't like KVM switches.... at least not the the one I have.... so it is off to buy a new monitor and speakers for it tomorrow...

I did.  UPS beat it up and broke the bezel on the front of the case.  Working with AOTL on a claim for UPS.  AOTL was cool and said he would just take care of my case issue and deal with UPS on the backside.  That was cool.

System cables inside were unplugged on mine so was dead as a door-nail when I went to boot.  Opened her up and saw power button and led cables were unplugged.  As noted the case was damaged and the box was a bit beat up so maybe cables came undone during that ordeal.  Plugged them back in and I had life.

Networking card is issue I am working on now.  Not sure what has happened but the NIC does not stay working after a reboot.  I posted my issue over on Hyperion.  Maybe the NIC is bad?

So for now ordered a new 8169 based NIC and will try a different one as someone else I knew had same type of issue and he replaced his card and was online.  Hoping that cures my issue too.

So a little ruff for my X5K start but will get things sorted out in time.

Glad your X5K is working well Slygon.  I am guessing your NIC is the same as mine.  Mine just has odd problem of not liking a reboot even though Internet Prefs are all the same and were saved.

Take care.  TJ

This us dealer is new and im sure doesnt have a lot of resources. I dont think you guys realize that amigakit is a relatively big business in comparison.

I will have to test the network issue tomorrow.  When I fired up the system, I did not have network support.  I figured out how to add it, and it worked fine. I then went and tried the amiupdate tool, and the system crashed.... So I just turned it off...I will see if everything works when I fire it back up tomorrow!

@Amigasociety, sorry you had damage issues... my box was a bit beat up, but everything inside was fine.  I did unseat all of the cards and put them back in before I powered it on... I have shipped too many tower computers in my day to know that they don't like to be shipped..... my cables were all fine though... I did check them to be sure....

Have fun with your awesome machine. I played with an x5000 at amiwest its pretty awesome. I think AOL needs to really really package these things extra careful, especially with ups which has no external oversight like USPS

btw its cool you dont know much about amiga NG we are here to help! No question is stupid so ask us for anything :)
