SCSI cd rom with AsimCDFS
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:35:31 AM »
So I've got my A2000 with an A2091 SCSI card and have a SCSI cd rom drive installed. AsimCDFS sees the drive on SCSI 0 (hard drive is on SCSI 2) but after reboot when I put cd in drive nothing shows up on the workbench? I've placed the CD0 into the devs drawer. Am I missing a step?

Excellent program but was a little tricky if you didn't have the manual....
Here it is in PDF format. Read it carefully :rtfm:

I seem to remember that if changed the SCSI ID of the unit I would simply rerun the installation and save the config.

Did you edit the CD0 file to point to the correct device # and L: handler?

No Mike, what should I do?
I have the "information" for the cd0 open as I type this.
Default tool has c:mount
Tooltypes has DONOTWAIT
And that's it

Drop down to the shell and type:

Code: [Select]
cd devs:dosdrivers
ed CD0
Change the lines for Filesystem, Device, Unit, etc. to match your configuration.  Here's a screenshot of mine for reference, but obviously yours will be different:

This is at the top of the list:

Device =SCSI.device
Unit =0
Mount =1
Should the mount not also be 0? It shows file system is AsimCDFS so that part is good.

Hummm, sounds right so far.  I think the 2091 identifies as 7, so 0-6 should be fine.  If you pop a CD in and do a "diskchange CD0:" at the shell, anything happen?

Or what about just a straight up "cd CD0:"?  If it's recognizing the drive at all it should say "no disk present", or something to that effect.

Is it a known-good drive?  Have you tested it on any other machines?

Edit - you might want to go back and review Gizmo's link to the manual.  I've been spoiled with CacheCDFS in 3.9, which "mostly works", "mostly better", haha. ;)  Probably some AsimCDFS quirks I'm not aware of, though.  :(

Ok, cd cd0: comes back with nothing.

I'll do some reading and see what I can figure out. AsimCDFS has always worked on my 4000. So this is a bit different with scsi
Drive was working but no way of testing now. It does light up briefly when I insert a cd

99% sure, yes.  ;)

As a side thought, what version ROM's are in your 2091?  You'll want at least 6.6.  7.0 are the latest, although I've heard mention of some kind of "homebrew" 8.0 ROM's, as well.

I almost forgot I've still got a 2091 sitting on my shelf, I've gotten halfway through that SpeedGeek overclock mod on it.  One of these days!  ;)

What OS ver are you using?  If its a later OS the settings are done in the tooltypes section of the icon information and not in the CD0 device file.

Haha, just messing with ya.  You could probably do it either way, but for the sake of consistency here, let's stick with the actual file, eh?  Trust me, I run 3.9 all day long, and I'm looking at a file as I type this.  ;)
