@kickstart: forget about Xorg on the Pi, really. You're going to get a VERY wrong impression of the machine's possibilities using that broken enviroment.
Linux command line is easy and you should go for it: learn and grow. It's a powerful OS and you're missing A LOT by not using it.
You can start with simple and rewarding tasks, like mounting a disk, navigating it's filesystem and playing a movie with OMXPlayer, then go for something harder like compiling RetroArch and playing SonicCD

GNU/Linux is fun! Only people without abstraction capabilities will tell you otherwise.
Using a broken enviroment like Xorg doesn't mean learning how to use GNU/Linux: it's a poor excuse for a graphical enviroment, slow as a dog an ugly as hell.
It's all about learning while using a computer. You'll find it's very rewarding.
