What's "blacktroll"?

A new banner can be seen in the banner circulation here on amiga.org. It leads to http://www.blacktroll.com. Any ideas what this might be? Perhaps something to do with this AROS picture ;-)? Any other ideas?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Blacktroll = Dammy

Seems like he plans to sell PCs bundled with AROS or something like that.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

@ Ryu and others

Thanks! :-)

Exciting to see what Dammy might come up with here. It has to be something special to stand out of the cut-throat price competition on the x86 market, right ...?

well its good to see Dammy hasn't missed a beat, in advertising before the product is ready.

I no longer wonder if people will ever learn.

anyway, nice to have some more vapor to discuss.
at least it shouldn't be too hard to slap together a pc and sell it.

I hope this is only meant for developers?? I cant see what use regular people would have of Aros yet... It will atleast need a tcp/ip stack, browser, mail and so on before they start selling preinstalled systems..
As it is right now, you really cannot use it for much, but hopefully that change in future..

Yes. If there had only been some good 68k emulation (JIT preferrably), then they would have had a flying start with many legacy Amiga applications, just like MorphOS. To be honest, MorphOS had been quite boring without programs like MiamiDX, IBrowse, and lots of other apps. Sure, new and native applications may be developed as time goes by (as we see on MorphOS), but the legacy apps has really been a seesaw that helped MorphOS to take off, and it could have been the same for AROS.

@MarkTime

What harm has been done? What have you done lately that's been productive? All I have read out of you lately is sour grapes, Marktime.

Try being constructive instead of destructive.

@redrumloa

Is there any harm in putting the cart before the horse?

I think the enthusiasm is misplaced and demonstrates a clear lack of priorities and the type of business sense that is required to be a success.

As for being productive....I am.   My latest business plan is about 100 pages long, and was proofread by phd in american literature and will be audited by an accountant before I show it to anyone.

am I saying this to make myself look good?  hardly, I complete about 20% of the projects I start, at best.  This project may go nowhere.

I can hardly criticize someone for trying and failing...we learn from mistakes, and I've made many myself, including many business failures, including announcing things too soon.

But what I've learned...is people who spend a lot of time making graphics and announcements are dreamers, and not people who are going to make a business work.

I am not, going to suggest this latest business isn't going to work...hardly.  I happen to like AROS.  I happen to think the community members putting all this together are nice folks, who I enjoy hearing from.
I have no idea whether they are trying to create a buzz, and do, in fact, already have products about ready to launch.

But I suspect not.  My guess would be...they are excited about something new, they have no real plan, and products aren't even close to being tangible yet.

I'll be glad to be wrong.  I call'm like I see them.  If this is dragging everyone down, then I'll leave.  I'm not here to disturb people...in actuality, my comments are meant to be helpful.

I don't want you to leave, I am only trying to make a point. I really don't know what Black Troll is all about, but I have a good guess. I do know however that behind the scenes there is alot of effort and rumor is launch isn't that far off. IMO it just seems you are being a little harsh.

Just a personal opinion, though I may have relayed it a bit harsh myself. For that I apologise.

-Edit-
I personally do hope they have a solid product soon. There are amazingly few real companies producing real products. Hopefully they will have something for me to stock my store shelves with :-)

I fully understand your feelings. We all feel like that, but remember that Blacktroll has not been announced or launched yet!!

So far all Blacktroll has done is fund stuff. Which is a lot more than some companies/people have done :-D

I think we should all just look on silently wondering whats going on and enjoy the excellent logo and rather cool name ;-)
