AWeb (Open Source) really bothers me especially on this site... it keeps "reloading" the website while the graphics load... VERY annoying! That and t he buttons and graphics within the browser are corrupted.

About the corrupted graphics, I advice you to change it (there are many "skin" available in the AWeb package or on Aminet), then the gfx should be ok.

I personnaly use AWeb most of the time because it's fast and stable. But I also use Voyager (PPC) for more complicate site (Flash, SSL ...).
By the way, I did not find the way to use SSL with AWeb.
In the end, you would get Voyager PPC for "free" if you get a Pegasos with MorphOS.

PS: IBrowse is a very good browser compatible and stable, but still crashable :-(
PS2: all of them can crash :-(

Bye

Ibrowse is without question the best choice. Its an awsome browser. I use it every day and like it even over my Mac browser. I'd like to see more modern stuff added to it , since he has got a decent ammount of cash I think we will.

I am a regsitered user of both IB an V.  V is far too unstable and its javascript is very lacking.  I also use the Aweb 3.4APL version and I find it is the quickest of all the browsers in rendering web pages and downloading archives etc BUT its javascript is not as good as IB.  I don't bother with V anymore- haven't for 2 years because of its instability.  You can get SSL with Aweb to work but I think only if you have Miami(SSL).  Definately Ibrowse is the most compatible and "modern" amiga browser you can buy.  i can get into all of the banking sites, yahoo groups and email without ANY problem.  Well worth the money

I have not used Voyager or Aweb. I bought IBrowse
back at version 1.1 then upgraded to ver. 2.3.
I had been using MS Explorer mostly for the
last 2 or 3 years. I have finally gotten tired
of my system being hacked all the time with
MS Explorer and have gown back to IBrowse.
I find that on my Amiga w/GFX card and
accellerator that IBrowse is exceptable.
I would recomend IB.

Dont forget IBrowse has no SSL support,
(Miami... MaiamiDx is no longer available
and is required for SSL)
Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

IBrowse 2.3 can do SSL without MiamiSSL. In fact, if you go to the IBrowse homepage, it says at the very top "Download IBrowse 2.3 and AmiSSL v2"... ;-)

Hi xeron,

I did not know that IBrowse would work with other SSL
modules, appologies to all...

I've used Voyager and Aweb, and compared to Windows web-browsers they are light years behind. I'm using Voyager as my main Amiga browser right now, and I've noticed that it crashes a lot if you use it with AGA. Can't use it with my A1200D, as it would crash very soon.

On my A4000DT with Voodoo 3 RTG, it runs fine.

As a professional web developer I can say that Voyager supports more of the badly designed html than IBrowse does.  However the stability factor and the amazing javascript support in IBrowse (JavaScript v1.4 without CSS), I would have to say IBrowse any day of the week.  Although, if you use MorphOS or plan to use MorphOS, I would sincerely think about going with Voyager.

Now, whichever you go with, make sure you grab a copy of AWeb APL.  I've found AWeb to be the most html4.01 complaint out of the other two.  There are a few things AWeb has problems with (like xhtml doctype identifiers or the background="" table cell tag) but it's only cosmetic.

Another thing, Voyager has some of their CSS engine written, just not tied to the rendering engine just yet.  I'm sure when MorphOS is updated along side Voyager, there will be support in there for CSS.  I don't know when any of the browsers are planning on supporting DIV or SPAN tags.  It seems the DIV and SPAN tags are the most troublesome tags out of the html4.01 secification.  Even though they were introduced in html4, there are already some attributes of those tags that are depricated as of html4.01 with reference to CSS1 type style tags.

Hey doesn't the Tao Intent engine incorporate a web browser with all the standards?

Why don't Amiga Inc hurry up and get Amiga Anywhere, which incorporates the Tao engine, running on OS4.

Tao Intent has a Web Browser, which according to them supports most standards, as well Javascript and java support!!!!

OS4 could inherit all that. Or do they have a cunning plan? :-)

I guess this what they were stuck in litigation with the Morphos group about. Promised they'd port Tao.

I've got all three Browsers on my Peg + MOS system.

My main browser is IBrowse which works fairly well for everything (including my online banking thanks to AmiSSL)  Last time I checked, it was also stable on 68k machines. :)

However, I've noticed that IBrowse tends to hog CPU cycles after I log into Yahoo mail.

Voyager is my alternative browser.  The MOS version seems to be a lot more stable then the 68k version.  (YMMV).   I use it mostly to log into YahooMail, but there is constant "Javascript error" outputs and it's not 100% fully compatible with Yahoo Mail.

Oh, Flash support in Voyager works okay, at least if you are trying to view FLASH animations that is compatible with it.  I've never managed to hear any sound from any of the FLASH animations that I've seen with Voyager.  Unless seeing that "badger badger badger" flash animation without sound is your thing, it's not quite that much of an advantage. ;)  I don't know if you can play any FLASH games with it either.  Anyone tried it?

As such, I would recommend to look into IBrowse.  And if you want to try Voyager, then definatly download the trial version before you buy.  Voyager tends to be picky.
Steph

Hi,

I use Voyager on MorphOS and it crashes a lot. Everything locks up and
only a reboot will get me back. The weird thing is that it does not
bother me at all. I reboot and get back to were I was.

I would choose IBrowse.  I own both browsers and prefer IBrowse

The pro's of IBrowse:
Faster than Voyager.
More stable (Voyager crashes periodically)
Decent, (albiet slow) 3rd Party support for SSL.

Con's:
No Flash.
limited (compared to MS Explorer, Opera, etc...)

Good luck...

Matt
