Whatever you produce there should be a non-voice version available.

There's a reason there has never been a boot voice in 36 years of computing, it can't be done right, it will annoy you and end up sounding like a '50s sci fi movie.

I hate burst your bubble but knoppix have (or had) a startup sound with voice

RIFF WAV, as a container, is an abortion.

Ha!
I think that the X1000 need more coders, more programs, more interest!

Thanx 4 your comments.

Well meet the Amiga voice:

http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_example.php

I have several good [looking & sounding] girls but they are all on vacation. In the mean time - I used this virtual girl :) he he. Seems like nobody noticed.

Well - I am planing to create ~10 different booting sounds [all played on my favorite Renoise tracker], all with and without speech.

Also if u have cool sounding [Alien-Breed or Aliens-like] female voice ["Attention... T-30 seconds and encounting..."]... then send it to me & I will include it.

My idea is to create [somebody?] a script that will boot each time different sound from set / playlist or samples from directory] so it won`t be boring.

I have to say that I was shocked to hear official Amiga booting sound is MONO!? I spent several hours triplechecking my soundcard, drivers, ahi... and then finally realized that Hyp chose mono sound... Damn.

At least I will create you stereo sounds ;)

Xpect some more soon.

Peace.

Isn't RIFF WAV just a little endian IFF? Less an abortion and more of a miscarriage? ;)

No, really, it's far worse than that. Trivial examples are just that - an IFF hunk format with little endian data, but it can get a lot worse.

I once saw some example windows source for dealing with RIFF with all the really nasty hunks they'd kludged in for different things over the years and it was amongst the worst spaghetti code I have ever seen. Never in my life have I seen so many goto statements in C code, and I've seen a lot of generated C.

I still have the odd nightmare about it now.

Could not play the sound or load into cool edit, even when specifying pcm wav, 16 bit 44k. Strange. I don't like this format.

Someone post it in  windows .wav format.

And wait, aos4 can't play stereo sounds?

The default sound.datatype can't or doesn't, it seems. Had this problem on 3.x too, which is why I always replaced it with the one from aminet. It showed you the waveform in multiview too, which was nice.
