I am not using the 1200 for high speed internet, I just to network it for file transfer, and considering the Amiga has SMALL files,  a 10 Mb card will do fine.

I'll do High Speed internet on a new Amiga when I can afford one.

I just bought a 100Mbit card from Elbox and what's more it is cheaper than the 10Mbit version. Argue that!

Cheers,

I had once a D-Link DFE 670 TXD, a 10/100Mbit card..
I had some problems with it - my miggy wouldn't start when it was plugged in the PCMCIA during cold boot, but when you inserted the card after first boot, it was working on 100M mode - transfers wasn't very great, I got only an Elbox 1230/40MHz MKII then..

There was some problems with NSD in OS3.9 (had to edit NSDpatch.cfg - card wasn't working with it)..

There ARE 10/100Mbps PCMCIA cards that work with cnet.device. I just don't remember the name/model of the cards, but I know that some people are using them on their a1200 :)

Download the 3Com-driver from Aminet. The cnet-driver will not work with a 3Com card.

You also have to find a suitable tcp/ip stack, otherwise there's nothing you can do with the card. OS 3.9 comes with such a stack (Genesis), but OS 3.1 doesn't have it as standard. I seem to remember there's a demoversion of AmiTCP on Aminet, but I'm not sure of that.

My 1200 with 68060/50 works very nice with OS 3.9 and a 3Com589. Surfing the web sucks (no RTG, just AGA), but other stuff like FTP, e-mail, chatting and usenet do work like a charm.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Hi,

I've got a 3Com EtherLink III 10BaseT card here if anyone wants one - it's model 3C589D-TP.  Send me PMail if you're interested.  $10 and shipping???  If you want me to screw you that'll be an extra $5. (+tax)  8-)

Your not supposed to tell them about the screwing yet, that's not the Ebay way.

Tell them the card is $2.00 for anyone who wants it, then once they agree to buy, charge them $40 for shipping...

...come to think of it, that's the Gateway way as well. :)

I have an Edimax from Software Hut.  It works fine but the settings were a pain to figure out.  It took me weeks to configure Genesis correctly, but it was eventually worth it. Neither Genesis nor Miami would auto-configure.  Instructions are unclear on manual configuration for both Genesis and my Netgear router.

You will need a router and PC to make it work.  At least that's what my Amiga tech and folks on this forum have said and I vouch for it working.

If you need help with configuration, this forum is invaluable.  I'll be glad to share mine with you.

I use an 060/50 and it downloads at up to 40,000 cps, tho 20-30,000 is more common.  I guess it depends upon traffic.  Without the ethernet card, downloading took forever, but I downloaded a 172 Mb file a few days ago that I'd never have attempted before.

Without a pcmcia conversion you will need to plug the ethernet card in after booting, but it's no real problem.

nope, router is not necessary, you can use cheap switch if your ISP gives you several IP addresses (or you use it just for LAN). And, even if they don't you could start socks proxy on one that has been given IP from ISP (running 24/7).

I have used A1200 with 10Mbit pcmcia and 8port switch and got about 200kbyte/s when using smbfs for transferring files to PC. (IIRC its a little bit faster in opposite direction).

Just be sure to TURN OFF firewall in Miami, cause it will slow down drastically everything.
Better sorry than worry.

@KennyR
The theoretical max of the miggies PCMCIA-port is something like five megs/sec. so a 100-mbit card could be utilized to 40% assuming that the you have a heavily OC'd CPU, and that the data transferred doesn't require any CPU to be handled! :-D
