I agree, it's going down the tubes.... I saw a Cybergrafx w/ scan double go for $170. When I sold mine, $125.

I think there is an underlying thought that if you are getting it off of E-Bay, you are getting a deal...

That and the feeling of compotition are the main drivers that get people to over look big BIG warning signs.....

A lot of people have given some really good tips about eBay and I'll try to use them. What I would like to see is AmigaBay.  A smaller place where screened reputable buyers and sellers could get together for safer transactions.   But that's not likely to happen.

Some of this stuff is getting really hard to find.  I have a really nice collection of classic Amiga's and I need a few more bits to round it out.

Thanks for the tips,
Jeff

Jeff,
I have read everything posted so far in this thread you have posted.  I have bought a lot of stuff on eBay and for the most part I have done well.  Admittedly a lot of what I bought was large comercial electronic parts which seem to come from a more reputable group.  I think a lot of the Amiga stuff on eBay is stuff from estates that vultures get by preying on people who know little or nothing about what they have.  In turn these vultures try to pass it on us by being as clever as their small brains will allow using lies in the form of ommission or the old "I don't know anything about this" line of crap.  As much as I hate to say this I believe it is a buyer beware game.  The list of warnings posted here in this thread is a good plan to follow.  I might add that I am not beyond pressing for details even after winning a bid.  I more or less give them one last chance to back out if they are trying to screw me.  I have found that if they are up to no good they will start to squirm when they think they are gotten on to.  One problem I have had lately is slow shipping.  I have also learned that the so-called power sellers are the ones to stay away from unless it is some deal you can't loose on.  I always give these guys the worst feedback I can in the number of characters we are limited to.  Always contact eBay with your complaint.  If they get enough on these rats they will be forced to do something.  Amiga.org should have a forum for rating eBay sellers that we can look at and use it to avoid any crooked sellers.

I've had about a dozen or more Ebay transactions as of late.  Everything from a full A4000D to software for it.  I have to say that my experiences with buyers has been 100% good.  I don't buy from people that have too much negative feedback, nor from people who hide it.

I'm due for my first bad experience, I can feel it.

A fool and his money are easily parted.   :-P

That's so true. I did it too, few months ago I really wanted an MP3 player for my Siemens phone. I ended up buying two . Later I sold the second one again at a loss of 40% on EBay.

It was a learning experience anyway :-).

Another thing I've noted is that EBay seems to be swamped with new Hotmailamers with a zero feedback who always end up being non-paying bidders. Is it just me or is the amount of those arseholes really bad now?

He's still around, though at times he is the invisible Amiga seller despite advertising.
HERE

We still have plenty of Amiga stock to clear out, not too much is listed ATM but there will be alot more by the weekend.

Most of the stuff in THIS thread is still available in small quantities.

As for our advise on eBay is do your homework. Scrutinize a seller's feedback BEFORE you bid. If he is hiding his feedback, if he has more than 1-2% negative, or if there is recent negative then it is buyer beware. Also I'd never purchase any high ticket item from a brand new eBayer. With some simple prevention methods eBay is very safe and the best marketplace for buyers.

Yes, it did finally today!  It's SO COOL to see a CD32 play a movie so effortlessly.  I just poped in Silent Running and it took right off.  Great picture too.

Now if I could only locate the plastic cover for the back of it I'd be in heaven :-).   The stock cover won't fit over the "U" connector.  I would gladly pay for one if somebody wanted to sell theirs.

Although this one has version 40.22 rom in it,  I have the stuff to program another rom for it if I can find the 40.30 binary file somewhere.

I am almost tempted to buy another complete unit if I can't find the cover.  Ya I know I'm crazy, don't rub it in.

BTW  How should I handle feedback for this transaction?  Although the guy did take 2 full weeks after payment to ship it, I did get it and it does work.  Thoughts?  I have never left anyone a bad feedback before.

It soulds like you are a little unhappy but overall happy that you got the item and it works well.  In your situation I would not leave any feedback.  If seller asks why tell him why.  If you leave neg he may retaliate with a neg back at you.  Is it really worth it because he waited 2 weeks to get a negative on your id?  You have to weigh it.  If I am really really unhappy I do not care if I get a retaliatory because it is more important that others know what this person did.  BUT they really have to mess up for me to do that.  Like item never arriving, or it arriving not like it was listed.  ie broken, in really bad shape, missing parts, etc.  Being a  little late but getting the item as described AND being happy with it, is not worth getting into a fight over!

I checked usps.com and it showed that it WAS received(left) today!

Did you like the goodies I tossed in too?

Enjoy, it is a sweet piece of kit!

Thanks, yes it is an impressive piece of hardware!  Especially considering that it's 10 year old technology.

I even found the 40.30 rom file.  I have had it all along with some OLD Amiga stuff.  I'll be updating the eprom tomorrow to the latest version.

Sounds like a fun little project! One of my other ones is a current ROM version, and I honestly could not tell the difference! But I only ran a few CD-I movies or programs at all!
ALSO remember that when you burn VCDs to do it in NTSC size & refresh!
PAL will work, but you loose aprx. 25 lines at the bottom!

I would enter it as neutral and type. Item works well, took over two weeks to ship.

On another note. Several Amiga sellers on ebay are not so nice. I bought a CS MK III for $400 with buy it now advertised as like new, works perfectly. I had asked if it was a phase5 or DCE before I bid and was told it was a Phase5 board. When the item came it was old lookig at beat up. The 060 looked like it had been pried off with a screw driver and put back on a few times. It didnt work at all. When I emailed the guy back he told me it must have been dammaged in shipping. I was so pissed. No way it was dammaged. Iy was packed rather well.
