I love the machine, hate the price.
Earth has a lot of things other folks might want... like the whole planet. And maybe these folks would like a few changes made, like more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and room for their way of life. - William S. Burroughs

The millionaire sentence does not make any sense.

Makes perfect sense, hence the phrase before hand - "A fool and his/her money is easily parted".

I paid $1500 NZD when the A500 came out back in the 80's. It was a kick ass machine, nothing came close to it. Multitasking, graphics and running 3 or 4 programs at once with 1MB RAM.

$2700 USD for this machine and the hardware we're getting is a few years old, and the processor isn't made anymore also the way it's worded you don't get the OS at that price.

Also this is USD, so by the time it gets to NZ it's probably going to be $4k including shipping it down here.

If I was a millionaire I'll be back natami or FPGA arcade. Smart money on a product that will be going places.

Hmmm... around 70% the price I paid for my A2000 setup in '87.....

Mind you, I did get a dot matrix printer and a A1081 monitor too.

..and an OS, and working hardware. (reading about the addon cards needed... insanity). Plus the a2000 was a great machine at the time.

I do want Amiga to come back, but charging this sort of dollars and for something that's not 100% isn't going to work.

Afraid, afraid,afraid about price.
who many units will they sold at this price?
What will be the price for people buying after this "First Contact Limited Edition version"? More expensive?

Afraid, afraid,afraid, I'm very afraid. :-(

+1.
I still think this is the only real amigaone that can call itself "computer". It's truly overpriced but not so much as acube machines with a price/performance ratio.
Honestly i hope the best to x1000.
And by seeing how it sell i think we should see the future of amigaos.
I'm not a os4 customer but, being an amiga lover, i want to thank trevor dickinson (and aeon) for his courage.
I\'m not an heretic: an heretic is a morphos user! I\'m a perverted: i\'m an aros user!
edit:...i\'m now an heretic perverted... i\'m a morpharosian...
Evil has no limits... I\'ve even os4.1 too...
Is there in my house any space to sleep still?

Do programs for the Sam 460 run on the X1000 (binary compatible)? Do programs for the X1000 run on the Sam 460 (besides the ones that require the xmos)?

Anything that will run on the X1000 will run on a lowly SAM 440ep unless it specifically hits that custom hardware or has extended resource requirements.

I've never had an issue in 3 years with anything off the major OS 4 channels like os4depot.net not running on my SAM 440ep anyways, even stuff written many years ago that could technically be seen as stuff from the "A1" days.

Software wise, OS 4 is a pretty good pig no matter what you run it on in regards to the modern native PPC boards.

There'd be nothing stopping you (as a millionaire) supporting all these things.  I am not really into retro gear tbh, but of course I wish the Natami or FPGA Arcade my every success - thats not to say I wouldn't throw them a few thousands also - ha if I could.

"A fool and his money is easily parted" (edited to remove political correctness)

I know this phrase, but you cannot apply to everyone.

Right now testers have reported that some apps that run across the current OS 4 base don't run on the x1000 yet.

an (sic) heretic is a morphos user!

I am NOT a heretic.
I just have enough common sense to refrain from buying an overpriced solution when a better one is at hand that's cheaper.

And kudos to Xdelusion. I love the X1000 design too (and hate the price).

I hope A-eon remains solvent and releases there next board (which will probably be based on a Freescale processor).

I feel the same as Iggy here, although, I am glad to see that this product is coming together. Looking at some pictures and reading some articles this morning about the X1000, it *sounds* impressive and looks cool.

The price rumors I guess you might call them, seem kind of high. 1500 Euro is almost 2100 bucks in US dollars. That seems steep, however, no one can say that it's not consistent with the absurd C= pricing model. My first A2000 with 1MB of memory, 1 floppy, a 1084 and a 2090 controller with a 20MB Miniscribe MFM drive was over $3,000!

I guess it remains to be seen, just like anything else, I think it would be wise to wait until the tree is shaken to see what falls out.

Hopefully, it will pan out and be at a price average joe's like me can afford. :)

Wondering what Aeon means by limited edition. Tj

Means they are going to sell a very "limited" number of them at that price. . .

I thought it was going to be the same price as the original 1000? Now we are close to triple that.

The price has been *confirmed* to ~ EUR €1,950 excluding OS4 (seems to be included in the "first contat limited edition" though?), shipment of a big and heavy package (with insurance?), and 20% VAT (if it's UK based). With that included it should land at about EUR €2,500 for European customers. You want the keyboard and mouse as well, pay even more! Want more memory, pay even more! Want a bigger HDD, pay even more!

Reading through this thread it is obvious it has degenerated into an OS4 vs MOS bitching thread sadly.

The reality is you can't buy Battlefield 2 let alone 3 for MOS OR OS4 so they are hobbyist systems. Neither OS4 or MOS running machines are actually Amigas anyway. An Amiga will accept my original Cinemaware game floppies and has hardware chipsets in them (OCS/ECS/AGA). MOS machines are just Macs not running OS X or Linux but something else. So no different to me running UAE on a NEXT station on Open/NEXTSTEP really. Expensive way not to use Win/Mac/Linux UAE if you ask me :roflmao:

To put it all into perspective, both OS4 and MOS are INFERIOR to NEXTSTEP 3.3 from 1996 FACT.

Running UAE on something other than an x86 box is no big deal to me, I'd rather have a spare A1000 for when mine dies and spare cash from not buying OS4/MOS capable hardware. Why? Because it's bad enough with Macs having no games to use their fast CPUs but these so called 'Next Gen Amiga' machines have games you could probably write on an Atari Jaguar haha.

Keep it in perspective people, it's like two retards in the playground fighting over who is the most retarded looking at these OS4 vs MOS bitch fests.

As for AROS...if you don't like it you can put back the copy of Windows that came in the box with your computer and carry on with using it as just a tool. You haven't got some old or new unwanted computer sitting under your desk reminding you of the money you wasted on it JUST SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE OS X/LINUX/Windows :)

You are wrong. If that's what you think after reading through the thread, you should try reading it again in order to really grasp what it's about...
