DoomMaster auctions. LOL
« on: January 03, 2004, 03:39:26 AM »
Hey have you guys noticed Doomy is selling "rare Amiga CD's" on eBay?  All they are is WHDLoad games burned to CDR with rare printed labels from his printer and all done on his Professional A2000 computer.  LOL
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

So?
If you don't like it, report him to eBay.

I don't care, I just think its funny as hell.  :P  People are buying them too.  Maybe I should burn all the games to a DVDR from Back2roots.org and sell them on eBay! LOL

Wait a minute here. I am not jealous at all.  I know it is legal as I own every game from Back2roots already.  I just thought it was funny.  I would never buy one as I am not lazy.  I have mine all on a DVD-R.  If you were to read my post you would see I was not having a problem with that, and was not even considering complaining, as it is legal.  With all the DoomMaster bashing I just thought I would point that out.  I still think it is funny as hell that people are buying these "rare" Amiga CDs!!  They are not rare, anyone that is not lazy can make one and even do a better job IMHO.

Most Amiga users do NOT know how to create a BOOTABLE Amiga CD where you can actually run the software FROM the CD.

Actually I am curious to see how one gets to boot from the CD.  Do you need a CD32 to boot from a CD on a Amiga?  I own a A3000 and A4000 with CD-ROMs and have to mount the CD to see it, it is never avail at bootup.

I wouldn't mind having a premade CD chuck full of freeware/abandware dms/adf's, but I'd rather do it myself (even though I don't have a CD err labeller?) the bit I'm lacking right now is a ton of blank old DD floppies...

You know, I'd hate to think there's yet another account I need to disable, Hans George Campbell (aka DoomMaster).  Because then more drastic action will need to be taken.

Hint: the reason I knew it was you before wasn't down to the A2000s in your avatars!

What? From http://www.back2roots.org/About/Project/Policy/ :

 - You are not allowed to redistribute any of the licensed software without permission.

From http://www.cinemaware.com/regterms.htm:

Cinemaware hereby grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-assignable and non-transferable license to use and display, for home, noncommercial and personal use only, one copy of any Material and/or software that you may download from this site

Copyrighted material is copyrighted material. The fact that a site has permission to distribute it does not automatically grant you the right to redistribute it further. Distributing copyrighted material without permission is piracy, and doing so for profit is generally a criminal offence.

I'm prepared to agree on that... "abandonware" is not the same as publicdomain. Freeware, Shareware and Commersial titles from sites like Back2Roots are free to download as the people behind the site have worked sometimes very hard to get licenses to offer it for download but that doesn't meen the one downloading them have the right to sell the games (reading B2R's policy it clearly sais "Don't redistribute our file collection without express, written permission." and "You are not allowed to redistribute any of the licensed software without permission.").

Sure Doomy might have a CD full with PD titles and licensed Freeware, Shareware and perhaps even Commercial titles that allows for him to sell it at his own profit for all I know. I'm just pointing out that just because some software is Freeware, Shareware or concidered "abandonware" and available online doesn't automaticly meen you can download it and then sell it.

@amigamad

Yeah, so-called "abandoneware" is really just software people haven't bothered or cared to find out who owns it.

Either way, selling those CD sounds sleazy to me. People on ebay get away with selling pirated stuff because the people who buy from them don't care that it's pirated, only that it's cheap so they don't report them. Pirates get large positive feedback because their customers get exactly what they bid for. They know it's bootleg stuff, and they don't care.

Is this Doomy fellow some kind of bad news on this site?

Well, let's see. The CDTV and the CD32 can boot from CD's. A1200's and A3000/4000's with PPC-boards can boot from CD (the PPC-boards have a CD file system in their FlashROM). Also, other Amigas can be made to boot from CD with some software trickery.

Success? Making money out of software released by back2roots is not legal.
