Damn, so it's confirmed that's cool....

How ? Why ? Do other HDMI TV/Monitors do this?

Very tidy setup too.

LCD TV + SCART RGB socket/lead = LCD monitor + VGA socket adaptor as far as quality goes so this must be a yank issue given you can get 20" TV for ~£150.

Problem = no TV/LCD panel has native 1280x512 REZ = Soft focus look. There are CRTs with 1280x1024 but that's 32khz PC land......

Yes, it would be nice if monitors in the US came with SCART. That port is almost unheard of in TVs typically sold here.  I bought a SCART->HDMI converter and did not have any success with that. (probably because it came from DealExtreme).

Composite and SVIDEO just don't have the sharpness (of even an old 1084) and VGA typically only works in a limited range of AGA/ECS  modes. Even with a scandoubler you may still have issue with PAL mode.

I know my old internal scandoubler I had in my first A1200 was pretty flaky and 50% of the time would distort NTSC screens. It looked like it mixed up every scan line. It always worked in PAL mode though. Indivision AGA is not available.

Issues getting a quality display on Amiga? yes...

The keywords to look for to get an international TV in the US are "Multisystem TV".  I found this out by some chance Googling.  Once you Google those search terms, you'll find that there are special dealers that can get the PAL/SECAM compatible TV sets in the US.

My Dell 2000FP also works with my Amiga's using only that adapter. They don't look quite as nice as the screen shots there but my 2000FP has always had a few issues even before I ever started using it with my Amiga. Congrats on finding another.

http://www.cocopedia.com/wiki/index.php/15KHz_SVGA_Monitors

List of 15khz capable SVGA monitors there, not sure if they are going to be LCD or CRT but the list looks quite long to me. Good place to start I guess.

the problem with those LCD flicker free monitors in pal and ntsc laced modes ...are the interlace artifacts on games
games doesn't looks fine...scanlines are visible on certain parts in games ...and of course it's not ok

for example here is a pic of turrican 2 where you can see scanlines on the laser shoot...that is incorrect
a correct amiga monitor shows the laser shoot very solid and brighter without scanlines

I have tried A1200, A600, A500 and A1000 with the VGA adapter.

This is to confirm that my DELL ST2410 (it is a full-HD with HDMI) is able to show the 15 hz screen (including KS screen)

For some unknown reason only the A1000 doesn't work..

I must say that the wide screen is a bit too large for my taste, so I prefer to normally link them to a smaller 17" through the indivision.

To my big astonishment I could today get my BenQ FFP222Wa to show picture at even 320x200@60 Hz. It's specced as 30 - 82 kHz, 56 - 76 Hz. Actually it does as low as 44 Hz but until today I never got it to show a pic under 320x400. Perhaps the latest NVidia drivers made it now possible to show 320x256, 320x240 and 320x200, too. So now it did show bearable picture at 15 kHz.

I am just back from holiday and got to check my two main monitors with my stock A1200. They BOTH work!!! (oh the excitement!)

One is a current-generation LED-backlit monitor (bought 3 months ago), the Dell U2311H. This one works perfectly (at least to my untrained eye), and it' miggy picture is miles better than the foggy image I used to get with my 2-year old 22-inch LG television over SCART. Just to be clear here's the connection I'm talking about:

A1200 ---> 23/15pin VGA adapter (eyetech stock) ---> Dell U2311H via VGA

I tried PAL, NTSC, High Res, etc., they all work and the picture is crystal clear, save for the slighlty mishapped pixels due to running an LCD at a lower resolution than its native one (in the case of the Dell it's 1920x1080).

The other monitor is a 5(+) year old NEC 1970NX I got off ebay for £30 a couple of months ago. To my astonishment (as I've tried countless monitors over the years, always to be disappointed) this one also works on PAL 15khz screens but the vertical positioning is off by about 10-20 pixels (cannot see the bottom edge of the picture). I haven't tried fiddling with the positioning settings yet, or overscan settings so this may well be rectifiable.

I feel very lucky today - I'm off to buy myself some lottery numbers first thing in the morning! I'll post some pictures of the monitors in action soon afterwards.
