It is 10 pages that after the first was mostly pointless then eventually got there. Not to mention the numerous violations. By all means feel free to continue. I just won't be showing on the front page.

Well, for what it's worth, I just posted a little story and a poll on my site.

Vote and comment if you wish. And I like socks. They keep my feet warm.

Does this community need a "Sock Draw"?
What is a "Sock Draw"?
Why was this thread moved into one?
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?p=645023&posted=1#post645023
Who moved it?

I didn't even know we had one.  AmigaWorld.net seem to think the subject is newsworthy, so why don't we?

Thoughts?

Not News. More like a badly written soap opera. hey, I think I've seen this before...

Maybe if I can bring some Space Raiders :D

They make them in beef flavor...my god. I hate you, I am now trying to discover a way to either find these or special order them. Why do you tease us by flaunting beef flavored chips (crisps) at us Americans?

Whatever they are, they're beef flavored. I'm not eating anything beef flavored that comes in a bag.
if I want something that tastes like beef, I'll eat beef.

BTW - If Wayne is the only mod logged in, then isn't it likely that the decision to move the thread was his?

Hey Wayne! WTF?
1) Wasn't me.
2) Surely you know that just because someone doesn't show up as "online" doesn't mean they're not here.  As I vaguely recall, there is a setting in your account to not show up on the online list.

Still puzzles me why A.org doesn't simply tell parties like this to pay for banner ads if they wish to cram their wares down our necks.  But instead they can tell tales, insult the users here, and make grand promises that garners them attention for free.  They are worse than Fox News for righteous, intolerant self promotion.   I hope everyone that has ever put cash into the kitty here resents the fact you've donated your hard earned money to allow the site to operate as free advertising for a company that treats the community with complete disdain.

Problem is, everything in the paragraph above could just as easily apply to Hyperion & Co.

That sock drawer was made to get the CUSA threads off the front page. All of them.

If you start making exceptions just because you like where a particular thread is going ("threads where the CUSA bashers win stay on the front page"), you'll end up with the same amount of bickering you previously had plus a lot more bickering about which moderator is a nazi and which one isn't.

Nothing about CUSA is "newsworthy" until they [1]ship product and we have some tangible proof for that (no photos please) and [2]they do indeed start to work on any Amiga branded machines. If you still want to discuss it, there's the sock drawer, where the rest of us doesn't have to look.

agreed.  a consistent policy would really help here.  previously CUSA threads were fine, now they're not?  given the level of discourse in 'that thread,' i agree with moving it elsewhere, but folks might read more into the decision than was behind it.

either CUSA threads belong 'in the drawer' or they don't.  if the moderators would clarify their views here, it would be appreciated.

If you can honestly compare the self promo Hyperion has done to what C-USA has done, we're living on different planes of existence.

I've never seen any news items from Hyperion, AROS, Morph, etc. - contain insults, threats, and lies - and nowhere near the frequency of these guys.  At least the Hyperion stuff is Amiga related, no?

While stuff from Hyperion, or anyone else - may not be of any interest to some, comparing them to the C-USA debacle is insane.  C-USA has essentially flown a plane over A.org, dropping propaganda that is often been shown to be questionable, and if you ask questions in a polite fashion you get berated and insulted.  Not to mention the fact that the spam is (currently) not even Amiga related from them.

I was merely trying to illustrate the fact that if a company is using A.org as their personal ad campaign headquarters, they should be paying for it - and that should apply to everyone.

I would think with an annouced 30 million dollar advertising budget and claims of already taking pre-orders for tens of thousands of units they can afford some ads.

First thing that made me think "SCAMMERS!" was them copying ad copy from apples website virtually word for word, replacing mac models in the sentences with their own computer model names. Okay, some excuses, they changed their website, but still.

Next they say they have a 30 million dollar advertising budget, but all we see is a youtube video.

How many times will they get caught doing something sleezy like using fake pictures, copying another companys website, I do find myself reading new threads on them just to use what bullshit happened now though, I must admit.

I know absolutely zero about CUSA.  Nothing, nada, zip, zilch, skippy.

That being said, let me at least try to help out here if I may.  When I built Amiga.org, including it's current incarnation, the idea was that the users would decide what was, and wasn't news.  It's not like it was in 1996 where -- if we wanted news on the site -- I had to go out and find it, then post it.

If someone out there is posting continual CUSA threads in the news forums, then that's between them and the moderators to decide what is, and isn't appropriate.

On the surface, I could also agree with you that if CUSA had a 30 million dollar advertising budget, they SHOULD kick in and help support the site with advertisements.

HOWEVER there are two flaws in that argument.  The first and foremost is that even if they DID sponsor this site properly, I know you guys.  You would then complain about how biased the site has become and how it's "sold out".  Same as when AI was hosting us.  Same as when I screwed up and dealt with Bill Buck.

That's a no-win.

Secondly is the simpler fact that it doesn't appear Bill P has actually ASKED CUSA to advertise, or sponsor the site in any way.  I hesitate to say that firmly, because Bill and I don't discuss his business plan for the site.

Sincerely.  If you have a problem with a particular person or people who seem to be schilling for CUSA, either ask them to consider scaling back, ask the moderator to consider moving the thread outside of the NEWS SPECIFIC forums, or -- and this would be fun -- simply add that user to your own personal "ignore" list.

Not sure the ignore option would block news items, but frankly -- having lived through hatred of AI, Hyperion, Genesi, and every other company who've even tried to support the community -- all this hatred over the posting of news items seems a little silly (silly ha ha, not silly "shame shame")

Hope it helps, God knows I need to actually try and be helpful..
