Change Boot Priorty, and live to talk about it?
« on: May 26, 2011, 04:28:00 PM »
Um, so I am wondering if it is possible to change the boot priorities in HDTool Box, save and re-arrange how my computer boots.

Or does it destroy the data on the partition?

No boot priority will not delete the data on the drives.  Its fine to dfo what you propose.

Though you could just use early start-up to select the boot device :)

Yeah that's what I normally do. My tower is setup like this:

1. turn it on, reboot it, it loads up AOS3.9 ( always kludgey )

2. But there is AOS4 on a latter boot partition. ( must go into E.S. to get this to boot up..)

I am going to switch them around, AOS4 1st and then use a script to choose which OS I want to proceed to...

Which will all probably end in tears.

Yes, OS4 puts its resident module into the memory and then 3.9 won't work I believe.

@ TheGoose

Not sure which type of PPC board your using but if it's a BlizzardPPC board then when you've finished with OS4 and want to go back to 3.9 just hold down the reset button for ten seconds and this will clear all OS4 stuff from memory and reboot back into 3.9... :)

I wrote my own script just for this, installed on the very first 100mb of my drive (workbench 3.1). it simply asks me which OS to boot from, then loads the rom into memory, reboots, and after that the script detects the correct kickstart in memory and boots from the corresponding partition.
Amiga 1200 (1d4) Kickstart 3.1 (40.68), Elbox Power/Winner tower (450w psu), BlizzardPPC 603e+ @240mhz & 060 @50mhz, 256MB, Bvision, IDE-fix Express, IndivisionAGA, 120GB IDE, cd, dvd, Cocolino, Micronik Keycase, PCMCIA Ethernet, Ratte monitor switcher, Prelude1200, triple boot WB3.1 / OS3.9 / OS4.1, Win95 / MacOS8.1
