Who said the side expansion is limited to 2mb, I have 8mb via a GVP HD8/SCSI card via a Zorro 2 adaptor, very cool.

Yeah, I had a setup like that for a while, but what an ugly frankenstein looking contraption it was. lol

The kind of cards I'm talking about that (often) have problems are singular application power hungry boxes with pass-thru. Start daisy chaining those puppies up to the A1000's bus and be prepared to deal with all sorts of misc. problems.

BTW: Goose, I sent you a PM a while ago... if you ever want to sell some of your internal A1000 stuff (such as your Multistart, AdIDE, etc.), LMK!   :)

Here's a linky for 'ya:

Save, if I part with it you are my #1 candidate for A1000 ubber lover. Now about this awesome board, I can't find an email address... Why don't you pursue this guy more Save? Do you have one of these?

You know, we could probably "copy" the design & parts from the AdIDE, put them on a ghetto Radio Shack through-the-hole board, hmmm. Probably some custom ICD chip on there we can no longer get hold of....

Yes, I had one. Worked great in an A500, but I really wanted it for my A1000 which didn't work out since I need Kickstart in ROM. Ended up toasting an A1000 mainboard trying to get DJBase's Kickstart adapter to work and just gave up  :(   (that's okay though as I always wanted an A1000 mobo on the wall for decoration!)

MKL has more activity on Amibay these days. He's MrMKL here IIRC. In the Amibay link is his e-mail addy.

I know for certain that a GVP A500+ works on the A1000 with 8MB of RAM.  I think I even have a picture of it floating around somewhere.

Actually.....I have a Comspec (?) 2mb expansion for my A1000 and I had to butcher the casing but the card works perfectly. Thing is....this beauty has 30pin 256kb SIMMs soldered onto the board (8 of them) now if I was to change these to 1mb 30pin SIMMs would I get 8mb....or a dead A1000?

Even labels them as SIMM1 .... SIMM2.... on the board. I have some 1mb SIMMs, can even test them on an ATARI ST (let the ATARI blowup before my A1000 init!!) but would it just work like some retro machines where you replace the DIL oldskool rams from 256kb to 1mb versions you think?

Today, I wouldn't even bother with such a scenario. Besides, 2.5mb RAM is plenty on an A1000 with 68000 and no hard drive.

Don't rub it in ;) When I see an AddIDE and an accelerator suitable for 68k slot they will be purchased too :) CSA style boards never have the RAM board though so waste of money on ebay.

9mb is good for Dpaint anim brushes + digitiser :)

I have a VXL*030 accelerator with 50mhz 030, 25mhz '882, 8mb RAM, and Kickstart 3.1.

Drumroll please....

It WORKS in the A1000! Thing is, you have to remove the daughterboard and internal floppy. Removing the daughterboard and bending (or snipping) its pins off is NOT something I want to do though to my A1000. Kinda nostalgic about the internal drive too. Sooo... am thinking about selling this to someone that doesn't mind a little hack and slash in their diet.

I don't want to hack up my A1000 ether, so I agree with you. I use the A1000 mostly for older games, so the 2.5Mb works fine. I do manage to use SuperBase 4 Pro, and DPaint III on it, along with some other "serious" software. If I can find an inexpensive GVP sidecar hard drive, I would dive for that. I actually had one, but in a moment of stupidity, I sold it. That was long ago though....

@Jim "It may not work reliably though, that bus was kinda noisy."

Damn it Jim! I have never connected anything more than 2 cards... if he's going to 3, he is going into an unknown territory, the bus might not take that kind of punishment!

Let us know if you make it to the other "side" ...

Well, I still have the A1000, but I sold the Phoenix expansion box years ago after I got a 2000. Those two cards moved over to the 2000, where they remain even now. ;-)

My 1000 had the DKB Kwikstart installed, which included grounding all the PALs. I ran a separate ground wire out into the expansion box. The Box itself was unpowered, but I did install a power supply for the hard drive. This kludgeomatic worked reliably for years.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I want to reference this post, so quick question: I have the Kwickstart 2 installed in my 1000 and I want to install the FastPALs upgrade.  One of the Kwickstart PALs is in the same location as one of the FastPALs is to go.  Are these two expansions compatible?  (I'm trying to put my 1000 back together to test the Starboard I am selling.)

Uh, I don't know about the compatibility, sorry. Um, but what are these FastPals, I understand about the PAL chips but not heard of this. Where do you get these? Back to the google ...

Sorry if I just hijacked your hijack? :biglaugh:
