Super Buster 11, Deneb, and Buster9RomTag??
« on: March 25, 2011, 03:07:47 AM »
Tonight I pulled my 4000 desktop apart to consider some audio cable routing.  Installed I have a Cyberstorm MK-III, a Picasso IV, X-Surf 3cc, and a Deneb.

In my other threat I discussed some DMA issues I was having which I resolved by installing the Busterv9ROMTag, and concluding that I must have a v9 Buster.  But tonight when I opened it up i found a 390429-11 Super Buster.

I have a Super Buster v11, but the Deneb will not operate in DMA mode without the Busterv9ROMTag??

This seems somewhat bizarre to me.  But it works, so I'm not gonna bitch.  I just think it's a little odd.

I'm going to see what firmware mine is running and depending on that, may end up trying this to see if I can get mine running in Zorro3 mode as I hear it takes load off the CPU.
Amiga 4000, Warp Engine 040/40MHz, CV643D with scan doubler module, Tocatta soundcard, Deneb, 72Meg fast ram, 18 gig scsi hard drive.

3xA500, 1xA1200, 1xCD32

DMA mode significantly decreased CPU load on my system.  I emailed E3B about this, and Michael said I may be experiencing something with the Buster 11 and my PIV.  I'll work on this later this weekend.

Thanks for this info.

I've been running my Deneb in ZII mode since installing a Mediator busboard because all other modes hang Poseidon.  I had assumed it was a Buster issue and that I needed to get hold of a Buster 11.  Last week, after many months of dithering, I finally took a screwdriver and removed the Mediator so that I could examine my Buster chip... and found out that is was a Buster 11!

I've never tried the Buster9ROMTag before, but if that allows me to use my Deneb in Z3 mode then I'll be a hell of a happy camper.  :D

For the record, my setup is an A4000D, Warp Engine 68040, Mediator, Deneb, FastATA4000, Soundblaster 128, Radion 256MB graphics card, Indivision4000.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

I have a similar setup, with an MKII and PIV. I had DMA problems (read errors, sometimes a reboot during transfers) that were cured when I swapped the bridge chips on my PIV with
the latest version from another card. I haven't upgraded the Flicker Fixer chip yet.

Rarely, I still encounter a read error, but it's always recoverable, and only with the MKII overclocked. I imagine this is a timing issue resulting from the overclocking.
