Amiga Forever 2011.1 Released
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:01:05 AM »
Amiga Forever 2011.1.0.0 released. This update includes improvements and fixes, including optimized interaction with WinUAE 2.3.1.0, which is now also available via the check for updates functionality. Other changes include saved state portability improvements, better handling of Amiga screen resolution changes (also fixed loss of input focus), easier content rescan after RetroPlatform Library update, and new advanced options for setting DirectX mode and enabling other tests. Amiga Forever 2011.1 is a free update to all 2011 customers. Additional updates to Amiga Forever 2009.2.2.0 and 2010.1.6.0 are being released for users of the 2009 and 2010 versions.

Anyone else using AF2011 on Windows XP with Virtualbox 4 on Snow Leopard?

The Amiga mouse cursor jumps around randomly when I move the mouse, but works fine if I use RAmiga+Cursor Keys.

Another hyper-boring release:

They change cosmetic stuff, add the latest WinUAE and resell it again.
I have Amiga Forever 2005 Premium Edition, and I dont see why I should buy this version. Nothing really new, content is still much the same.

Why dont they license more apps and games, just to give it more sense and appeal to customers?

Our focus too is increasingly on content, but that requires a good player software, capable of easily recognizing, managing, configuring content. Under the hood there are vast changes and improvements going on in the player. The fact that on the outside it appears to be simple doesn't mean that it doesn't take months of work each time.

The 2009.x, 2010.x and 2011.x updates released today are all free of course, as was the 2011 version for 2010 users.

Maybe Virtualbox could better emulate the mouse, so that the guest receives not only meaningful absolute but also meaningful relative mouse move data. The Amiga needs relative data to move the mouse. This might be the cause of the problem.

Open shared.ini (see http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/13-175) and append this line at the end:

absolute_mouse=mousehack

Does it help?

@ Cloanto

I bought Amiga Forever 2008 just to try it out one my sisters PC (cos I don't own a PC and never will). Now I ain't knocking Amiga Forever as it's a really neat emulator but it's not for me as I only use real Amiga Hardware, which brings me to my point...

Why are the ROM images encrypted on the DVDs/CDs and why do you and all the other who claim to pay for distribution licences for the ROMs do so, don't you think it's high time that the ROM image files should be free to distribute for genuine Amiga users to use with their Blizzard boards etc...

All this nonsense over not being allowed to download Amiga ROM Images from numerous sites on the web is really one sad joke. I mean if your honest about it then claiming such sites are committing piracy by making the ROM images freely available is just nonsense when you consider that the vast majority of folk using your software will actually be using "pirated" ADFs downloaded from the web to use on Amiga Forever...

Reckon it's time yourself & all the other companies who cling onto the ROM images & their distribution stopped this nonsense and put the ROM images into the public domain instead of trying to make a quick buck from them... :)

Cheers

That's not up to us to decide. We, like others, just followed the rules to make Amiga Forever possible. I think the FAQ at amigaforever.com further covers this quite well:

http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/13-122

AROS is a free alternative, which we support too.

Already read that, while I understand you've got a product to sell (and a it's a very nice one) it doesn't help when you pay for a distribution licence that only encourages whomever actually still claims to own the rights to the ROM images to keep profiteering from them... :(

Your product would sell equally as well if you didn't include the ROM images and they were (which they are anyway) free to download on the net. I really think all this cloak and dagger stuff and folk not daring to mention where they can be downloaded from is really childish and just plain daft to be honest... :(

It's way past time we all put a stop to this nonsense which over the years has done more harm than good to the Amiga name and put the ROMs & Workbench in the public domain where they belong... :)

Until the ROMs or ROM images & Workbench disk sets are actually manufactured again and sold at a reasonable price and are easily available then (which I doubt they ever will be) then I say good luck to all the sites who make them freely available to download and are of use to those of us who can actually use them... :)

Support the Kickstart Replacement bounty and free them Roms, like Cloanto has $111

http://www.power2people.org/projects/profile/6

Another Note, thanks for the free update for 2010 users and thanks for another free update to your excellent program, I love RP how it pre-configs all my games.

I kind of agree with the contents, I've not really notice much new contents in a while, it would be nice if some how you could get permission to have Os 3.5 and 3.9 on their and maybe the experimental Walker Rom 3.2.

May be you could do a deal with Viva Amiga (the amiga film thats in the works) to included it as part of your box set that would be cool)

One final question if you can answer it, Workbench the name what was that all about, did / do you have plans for the Workbench Trademark, have you had any dealing with C=USA? and do you have any plans to have Aros apart of Amiga forever?

Odd... I don't see many names of those on this forum who harp on about how great AROS is contributing to the bounty...

Perhaps they use AROS on x86, amd64, PPC or ARM based machines, therefore 68k has no use for them?

Or, like me, they never donate to bounties, prefer ring to donate directly to programmers whose work they appreciate?

Speaking of new content we offered to include the original version of Aladdin 4D (Draw 4D 1.0) and PDF manual with Amiga Forever some time ago. Hopefully Cloanto will take us up on it someday.
