Posting frmo iBrowse right now on my A1200 with an ACA1230/28.
This site is slow, I'm guessing because of the amount of Javascript.
Sites like aminet.net are fairly responsive, which is pretty much what I think will be the most used site from my 1200.

Also, in the other thread, there was talk about AWeb and images.
It works for me.  For some reason tho (I'm guessing cookie related, I possibly disabled something) I couldn't stay logged in.  It would say "Thank you for logging in" and then take me back not logged in..
But, it does work with images for me.

I'm using A-Web  APL 3.4

p.s.  Quick Reply doesn't work for me either..

It works, is reasonably fast, but obviously doesn't do CSS.  Did someone have a proxy configured to do some magic here?

That would be me :)

I made this youtube last year to show how my recently acquired LCD monitor worked with some retrogaming hardware. At 6.15 you can see my 68030 50 MHz miggy 1200 accessing the net. It's loading this page. You can compare the results. In the spanish-spoken voice-over I'm commenting how long it takes just to show the logo of the site ^_^'

Thanks for that rockersuke... :)

Finally I've got see the speed an Amiga can browse the net... :)

Not dead slow but I don't think I could use it myself but then I suppose it also depends on what hardware your Amiga is using. Still, any optimisations I can  make to AWeb can only be a good thing, I reckon... :)

My machine seems much faster than this using iBrowse ... I'll try to record a video myself :)

I don't know why no one has posted this link yet, and I feel terrible for letting this thread get this far before replying. Here is an outdated PCMCIA network card compatibility list:

http://www.g-mb.de/pcmcia_e.html

Here's a video of me browsing the web with IBrowse in Super High Res Interlace as a demonstration of an S-Video adapter on my A1200 030:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kaz6fNpHYIg

Here's a video of me playing the Amiga's best online game, Dynamite, and streaming internet radio stations on the A1200 030 (sorry YouTube cut out the audio, but the music plays without skipping):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j72NjheWP-A

iCab has very primitive CSS support and not a single website I visited was laid out correctly. Since it's about ten times slower than IBrowse and offers no real advantage, it's not worth using through Shapeshifter to browse the web, but it's a nice experiment to try.

I was browsing ebay.co.uk just the other night and came across a few compatible PCMCIA network cards, but I didn't know anyone was looking for one so I didn't say anything. Keep an eye out for Etherlink III cards, many A1200 users including myself use them and they're great.

If you want IBrowse to run a bit faster it's best to disable Javascript and only enable it on the sites that require it to work properly. IBrowse is good in this way as it lets you set different settings for individual websites. You don't need Javascript enabled to browse Amiga.org through Karlos' proxy, for example.

Damn, you are a youngling, Cammy. :) Not sure why a youngster such as yourself is so interested in ancient Amigas but power to you! :)

Thank for those Cammy... :)

Handy link that, in the first video IBrowse (I believe your using) it seems to run reasonably fast, what accelerator board do you have in that miggie... :)

I've seen the second video before and forgot that you were actually playing an online game in it... doh... :)

Been looking at those cards on ebay all week but wasn't sure about them, now I can check them out with the link you gave... thanks... :)

I'd recommend against disabling it for the proxy site as it's required for the cycle gadget based popup menu replacements to work.

Oh yeah, but it's easy to enable it again and reload the page when you need to use those, that's what I do on my 28Mhz Cobra 030 anyway. I don't have a FPU for it yet so IBrowse needs to use the CPU for everything and Javascript just makes everything much slower. Whenever I need to use a feature on a site that needs Javascript, I just enable it in the menu and reload. I think the designers of IBrowse made it easy to enable and disable all these features for people with slow Amigas.

Hey Ed, I got into Amigas because the CD32 was my first games console and my desire to play more games on it made me expand it with an SX32 and eventually branch out into using other Amigas and Aros.

I've got an old MC68882 (PGA Type) FPU chip here you can have, I bought it years ago for my old GVP030 board but at 50Mhz all I get is a yellow screen when I boot up so it must be one that can't run at 50Mhz, it's yours if you want it, just let me know if it's any use to you... :)

Erm... can't answer that for you, never had a miggie online before, but after finally last week disassembling AWeb and currently in the process of converting it to re-assemble this time in true 68K (Not C like the original is written in) I've allready spotted a couple of hundred optimisations that can be made to it that should speed it up a wee bit... :)

@Franko, as a bit of a 68K ASM fan, I'm just curious about what tools and methodology you use to go about disassembling programs.

For the most part I use ReSource V6 for disassembly, but I also use quite a number of MON Progs which are handy for testing/debugging and things like BarFly... :)

I'll send you a PM today/tomorrow with more details if you want, right now I'm just about to have my dinner and go to bed, it's 1:26am here and I forgot to eat today so I'm a wee bit peckish and getting tired... :)

Does IBrowse actually make any use of FPU? I can envisage a javascript implementation using it as and when it uses floating point but that's not common other than for CSS related work (eg manipulating things like opacity which is specified as 0.0 - 1.0)

There is a 020+ and a 020+FPU version of IBrowse, and I used to use the FPU version with my 8MB RAM card with FPU. I'm not sure exactly what it's used for, perhaps the image remapping or dithering. In any case, I could definitely tell the difference in speed when using the FPU version instead of the plain 020 version on my 8MB Amiga. I could multitask better, less slowdown.

Interesting. Actually, on reflection, I guess some of the layout calculations could use it, though I had imagined they'd use fixed point.
