Maybe yous could come over to Belfast for a while and we can all have a nice meal.

I made a recording of the last time I had some Amiga folk at my house.  That was a great time!!

I've known Nlandas since before I found Amiga.org. Well, before Amiga.org even started. Met him in college.
I've also talked to Wayne on Skype once if that counts.
I'm in a remote area and Amiga  users are spread kinda thin, so it's hard meet up.

I met AmigaEd when I sold him my a1200 and nec3d multisync. He lives in Pennsylvania IIRC and we met close to the NY/PA border.

Yep! That was back in 2005. How time passes when you're having fun!:)

Still have both the monitor and the A1200. Oddly enough the keyboard just started acting up a couple of weeks ago, so for now I'm using my back-up 1200. I hope maybe cleaning up the flex-circuit contacts will help. If it comes down to it I've got a spare keyboard, so I should be able to bring it back to good health.

So did anyone have dealings with this doommaster incarnate? He did offer SAS/C here: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?p=605008#post605008 and some HW here: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55487

If so, were there any problems?

Some years ago, I bought an A2000 (Mil-Spec of course) from Doomy via eBay. After about three or four months,  a couple of re-negotiations of the price and some strongly worded correspondence, I received the A2000 in working condition. Still have it to this day and most likely will never get rid of it.

One book of stamps = $3.70
Postal Money Order = $64.90
Four trips to the post office...

Doomy's A2000.... PRICELESS!

How can you tell if an A2000 is Mil-Spec?

Well, I did have the pleasure of meeting the DoomMaster ...  Right now he is in the process of re-doing the 2-hour movie ... he will mail a master copy to OPB and to Washington DC for the archives.

OMG! I think I just blew one of my capacitors!

Don't look now Doomy! Someone is running off with your master copy!

Easy! If Doomy previously owned it then it must be Mil-Spec!

(I'm sure this also applies to any of his endorsements of German made Amigas.)

@AmigaEd
Why on earth was he renegotiating the price of an eBay sale?!

Well, you know at the time, I wondered why also. Actually to be more accurate, he was renegotiating the shipping cost rather than the sale price of the A2000.

It was a nervous deal the whole way through but in the end worked out. I've got to say that I was really surprised that he shipped it after the long delay. I initially figured that I was being chumped. Of course, I got tired of waiting for him to actually deliver the unit and just went out a bought another one eBay that showed up a two months sooner than Doomy's.

Truth is, that it pays to do some research ahead of time. I was just getting back in to the Amiga at that point and in my excitement I unwittingly bid on one of Doomy's listings. It was only afterwards that I learned about him here on A.org.

I've not met any amiga fans in real life since it's heyday, let alone ones from amiga.org. In fact Ive only ever met two people who stayed with the amiga long enough to get themselves an aga machine, one of whom was my brother (who stayed with it a lot longer than anyone else I know, but has now also moved on). The closest I came was a few guys who were representing thier amiga user group at a computer swap meet (I believe often called computer fairs elsewhere), who bought along thier A4k, but absent mindedly had no software to display, so just had a very basic fractal demo running. Upon hearing I was an amiga guy they desperately asked me if I had any amiga stuff with me (bit weird I thought, I love my amigas, but why the heck would I carry amiga software with me in public? :))

I'd like to meet some amiga ppl in real life, but I dont drive and live a few hours away by train from melbourne, so it's not really easy to go to user groups being that its 2 hours to the CBD, then another hour-ish to the only user group Im aware of (in moorabin). Each way this is about 6 hours travel for a 1 hour or so meet.
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Well, it sounds to me that you did not pay enough on the shipping, so, Doomy did not ship the Amiga 2000 until you mailed him the needed funds for shipping.  I do not think that he had any intention of ripping you off, because you did get the Amiga 2000, but only after you mailed him the correct amount for shipping.  It sounds like you are very happy with your purchase.  So, why spread negative feedback about Doomy?  He did not do anything wrong.  I think that the guy is getting a bad rep for no good reason and many people here on Amiga Org think so too, but are afraid to speak up for fear of getting kicked off the forum.
