Well, it sounds to me that you did not pay enough on the shipping, so, Doomy did not ship the Amiga 2000 until you mailed him the needed funds for shipping.  I do not think that he had any intention of ripping you off, because you did get the Amiga 2000, but only after you mailed him the correct amount for shipping.  It sounds like you are very happy with your purchase.  So, why spread negative feedback about Doomy?  He did not do anything wrong.  I think that the guy is getting a bad rep for no good reason and many people here on Amiga Org think so too, but are afraid to speak up for fear of getting kicked off the forum.

Hans, you know full well you specify the shipping cost on the auction. To then refuse to ship until the buyer pays more is totally unethical.
Code: [Select]
10  IT\'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
20  FOR C = 1 TO 2
30     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA
40     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAAA
50  NEXT C
60  NA-NA-NAAAA
70  NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA NAAA-NAAAAAAAAAAA
80  GOTO 10

If there was a conflict in regards to the shipping costs then surely the money should have been returned well and truly before 3 or 4 months ? Not to mention the fact that renegotiating after an auction is finished is a pretty scummy thing to do.

Having said this though, I really should pay a friend of mine for some amiga gear he sold me quite some time ago (although this is different than ebay/strangers).
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

George, (so again, you have clearly identified yourself with the comments made) you damn well know that the price of the unit and the cost of shipping was all explicitly stated at the close of the auction. Only afterwards did you change the terms of the sale. Only after me not receiving the unit for an extended period of time and only after I sent correspondence to you did any action on your part occur.

...and I gotta tell you, if telling fact is considered negative feedback and as a result all that happened is that your feelings are hurt, then you should consider  yourself lucky.

By the way, the videos are great, keep up the good work! They keep me entertained for hours in a "Silence of the Lambs" kind of way.

I agree.  If the item will cost more than the seller thought (and stated on the auction) he should ask for the difference, and if the buyer does not agree with that, the seller should just refund the $.  No need to keep the money hostage until the ransom comes in!

I tell people I'm deaf and that's the end of the conversation. They get uncomfortable and walk away to find someone else to talk to.

Just like that ?

I'd go to an Amiga club if there was one locally, or some sort of retro gaming/alternative computing convention. I go to the science fiction/comic/games/anime/pop culture convention in Brisbane every year and I've met fellow internerds from other forums there, but again the same thing happened that always happens, they got all weirded out and walked off.

That wouldn't be even a problem on an Amiga day, just type it with Say and you would speak as Stephen Hawking does.
Even on a meeting like you spoke of, you could use a mobile phone or pc with note pad and just type.
Use MSN or whatever you use for chat.
And if technology fails, we always have a whiteboard and the basic paper and pen.

Just because people don't know sign language doesn't mean they can't communicate with you.
So I wonder why they really get uncomfortable, knowing they have all these options.

Well I met Petro in Columbus Ohio a few years back.

Saraba and her husband (Caricon?) from #AmigaCafe on IRC, but that has been years ago and I lost touch with them. There have been a few others, but I forget their names as well.

I've known Saraba and Caricon for years, chatted with Caricon a few months ago and talked to Saraba on the phone around the same time I think. We used to meet up every now and then.

Holy thread resurrection.

The only one I've met in person is "thebilgerat" over a few trades but he's a genuinely nice guy
