It's not then ?
Well, it is, but Constitutionally speaking, it's an independent state that voluntarily participates in the union. Really, though, I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and declare our land as uniquely unafiliated with its land mass. It seemed like the popular thing to do in this poll.:roflmao:

And - by the way - the usual "EU bashing" is getting really boring. Even the brits work with the € since more than 20 years, everything you do, everything you sell, the whole british economy is based on the € since middle/end of the 80's. This has indeed nothing to do with that more or less funny coloured paper you use as money in the streets.

I can assure you the man or woman in the street here in the UK doesn't use the Euro on a daily basis (if ever), probably the only time any of us see some of this mickey mouse currency is when going on holiday, personally I've never even seen this toy money... :)

Of course - geographically - UK and scandinavia are part of Europe. As well as the left part of Russia and the northern continental part of Turkey. Gosh. And - by the way - the usual "EU bashing" is getting really boring. You know what the best thing would have been ?
Combine the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany together and then having that started with the Euro.
That would have been a winning combination, all large airports and shipping harbours together, way better then with all those eastern countries and south European countries in it.

That so many Brits are unable to comprehend that the British isles (and Scandinavia for that matter) is part of Europe, and that Europe is a geographical term and not a political one, says alot about their educational system.

I can't argue in this point, 'cos I feel it might be very near to my own opinion... ;-) But it is, as it is. Going backwards would be very, very dirty, so I still assume, that we shouldn't bother with "what could have been" but try to make the best of the situation. I'm still convinced that the EWG (and the following more political directed EU) is *the* masterplan for peace in Europe, especially for the smaller countries - even if a lot of strange things come out of Brussels...but, hey, our national governments aren't better, really.. :-)

You won't even find a Glaswegian claiming to have anything to do with Edinburgh, let alone being British, so as far as being European goes you've got no chance... :)

It's in the genes, it's a birthright, strongly defended in these little isles, well that and the simple fact we just love to hate each other... :biglaugh:

Heck I've even had to lump Scotland in with the UK, quite a hard choice to make that one was... :)

Officially the UK is defined as the United Kingdom of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland.

...and yes we are all technically part of Europe even if we don't feel like it.
BTW I'm from Northern Ireland in case you're wondering.

Netherlands, so Europe, but I wish someday it can be USA, I would do anything to get out of this hell hole.

Don't knock it, Having lived in the UK most of my life, the US (briefly) and The Netherlands, there is no contest as to where I'd go if given the choice*: easily The Netherlands.

*Actually if given the choice I'd go to France first, but maybe that's because I like latin girls ;-p

USA is great if you have money, otherwise you're completely F***ed.  Their poverty rates and social systems are really quite awful compared to Europe.  The US would be a nice place to live, but only with a good job.

...& Political Correctness.  I think it's the same in most countries these day's

Political Correctness is just hard left wing in disguise.  It doesn't seem to have caught on in France and I don't imagine the rest of Europe either.

I wouldn't go as far a lumping in the UK with Europe. Thats why we still use £s and not Euros, were mostly a bunch of nationalistic anti Euro sceptics here...

So was I once, then I lived with it (the change over happened while I was living in Amsterdam).  One you've lived with it, it makes a hell of a lot of sense.

OTOH if we adopted the Euro we'd end up having our financial system being run by Germans.  The Germans have had financial stability for 65 years, The UK economy on the other hand has almost collapsed *twice* in the last 35 years.  Would I like to see the Uk economy run by the Germans?  Hell yes!  They do a lot better job than our bankers do.

UK people like to complain about Europe a lot but I'd much sooner live on mainland Europe than in the UK.  I don't remember the taxes being much higher but if they are you feel that get it back, their transport systems are cheaper and far better, their health system the same.  This is very unlike in the UK where you get the distinct impression that all your tax is going into someone's pocket and you don't get F*** all back.

Given the EU is very much "led" by Germany and France, I imagine it very much IS the masterplan for european peace. Thats how we always felt it in Denmark anyways

yeah, if you are poor here, you are pretty much screwed.

I know, but we do allow for the American education system here, and therefore let you off with that line of thinking... :)

That's why we don't lump Americans & Canadians together, a far better education system here.... ;)

It's bad enough for me having to lump Scotland in with the UK, but even I wouldn't go as far a lumping in the UK with Europe. Thats why we still use £s and not Euros, were mostly a bunch of nationalistic anti Euro sceptics here... :biglaugh:

(but we still love our European comrades :))

@ ferix

Were you educated in America !!!

Hi Franky me old mate ,now you know im from the uk and i dont mind being bundled with Scotland , and your a good pal but where is our Goal posts ,eh lol 4th. June 1977 at Wembley Stadium in the Home International Championship. Following Scotland's 2-1 win against England (The Old Foe) the enraptured Scottish fans invaded the pitch, broke up the goal posts and tore up large sections of turf to take home as souvenirs.

@ Smerf

Scotland is located in a small hamlet in the southern most tip of Ireland, which in turn is located in an ashtray at the end of a public bar in Wales, all of which of course are located in an old ladies flowerpot somewhere in England which just so happens to be floating above the Isle of Wight right now... :)

@ MrMoonlight

On the train journey back home, my dad traded his piece of goalpost for a bit a the hallowed turf, which took pride of place in my mums back garden for many years. Unfortunately the weeds eventually took over and no-one could ever quite remember exactly which part of mums back garden was that wee bit of Wembly... :)
