I'm just being honest. You fall head over heels to provide a great service to those who buy off you. I'm just trying to reciprocate that in a small way here :-) .

I have bought several  items from him over the years and got them as described.  THough the most recent one:  Arkanoid, took like 45 days to get to me, and he also threw in another disk as the one in there was bad.  Good overall not sure what is going on with him, maybe he is having some issues?

I have been using ebay for some time now and I like it.  No major problems to report.  You just have to choose who you do business with carefully - read their feedback before bidding.  Some people open multiple accounts, buy and sell to build up a reputation and then "Scam City".   It's very hard to figure out who is one before its too late.  Watch especially on "Big Ticket Items" ie. $$$.

Payments:   If in the USA

Use PayPal for verified sellers only.  Why - in a case of fraud, the individual can be directly traced, tracked and arrested.  Even a business account has to have someone attached to it.

Money Orders - fraud via MO can also add additional charges as in "Mail Fraud" to boot.  My favorite method of payment.   :-D

"dgstudios" from ebay looking at multiple counts of fraud, grand theft etc but  "no mail fraud" as he only accepted PayPal ("he was registered") that left an electronic paper trail right to his doorstep.  Including everyone he ever did business with.

Like street smarts ther is ebay smarts but nothing is perfect  :-)

PS:  ebay has a fraud reporting system but you can also report to the non ebay fraud complaint unit (can't remember the name) you can get in touch with when filing with ebay.  They track complaints and add them all together when bringing charges (if Possible) to    individuals.

Hi, I have brought a lot of Amiga items in Ebay, And payed it with bank tranfer and paypal, never got any problems :). Anyway if you have problem and don´t receive the item that you have borught using PayPal, you can go to your bank and cancel that charge in your credit or debit card. Then You will have problems with PayPal and will need to probe them that The PayPal account is your, or maybe to open a new PayPal account. But your will save your money :).

Remember, only do business with good feedback people :D .

Sorry, I wasn't making a joke at your expense. Roger Waters was the main song writer/lyricist in Pink Floyd, and I naturally thought of him, even before you said Roger[/i[ Waters - 'r_waters' made me think of him

P.S. If it makes you feel better, I speak French and Russian and am going to Spain for a few weeks to learn Spanish. You are right about people in English speaking countries - we don't have a reason to learn other languages. Foreign languages happen to be one of my passions.....
I like Amigas

Hi avilasan,

Yes I too have had a bad experience on EBay with a person selling various Amiga items.

Email #1:

I am writing to you because I am extremely disappointed not
only by the fact I've had to wait more than 3 weeks for the
following items to arrive:

3056434411
3056434209
3056434344
3056434497
3056853656

But also the fact they were very poorly package and secondly I
feel I've been mislead and cheated of £120 that I paid you in good faith
for items I auctioned on believing they were in immaculate condition as
you stated and they are not.

The Commodore MIPS1270a is scratched, covered in ink stains and has no power
supply so I can't test nor use it.

The Action Replay Amiga mk1 [not mk4] as you stated doesn't work because
several pins on the edge connector are visibly detached from the solder.

Also the Commodore A590 Hard Drive for the A500 is very badly
cosmetically damaged and is missing 2 external screws that mount the HD
in place.

Inside the A590 the internal IDE HD ribbon was not connected correctly to
the HD, the internal IDE ribbon is faulty. [I've test a new cable to prove
it is faulty]

2 data pins on the right side of the HD are bent out due to misuse and the
P10 power supply connector to the HD is faulty altogether causing the unit
to have intermittent power up and data reading faults.

'Swapping out' these cables to get the device to boot I discover that one
of the partitions 'DH1:' won't read, prompting concern for the physical state/
usability of the HD itself. Why was this unit not properly packed knowing
full well it is a fragile product.

The Commodore A1010's external Disk Drive for the A500, you stated was
immaculate, is NOT. It is again very badly scratched along the front and
all across the top left.

What I want to know is 'what are you going to do about this?' Because if
we can not resolve this issue quickly I am taken action and further more
will demand a FULL refund and return ALL the items.

Photographic evidence of all these items was taken as proof of the poor
condition of these item upon arrival to my home address.

Awaiting your urgent reply.

Mr Paul Andrews

As stated in an e-mail dated 7/11/03, I know absolutely nothing about amigas
so I consulted a friend on the items. The friend assured me that for their
age they were in immaculate condition. If there are scratches on the items,
I must apologies. I obviousley should have inspected the goods as well as
trusted my very knowledgable friend.

If something is immaculate it is free from dirt, stains, impurities and unsoiled
regardless of age. Hence the reason I was prepared to auction on these items and
pay that bit extra.

Summary of faults:

3056853656 - RARE Commodore MPS 1270A - Immaculate [no power supply/clogged ink cartridge, untested and cosmetically damaged. currently being serviced by my friend whose profession is a printer technician]
3056434497 - Amiga A590 20MB Hard Disk + Extras [faulty internal p10 power cable and IDE ribbon. bent HD pins, signs of tamper and missing screws. cosmetically damaged]
3056434411 - Amiga 500 External Disk Drive - Immaclate [works ok. cosmetically damaged]
3056434344 - Amiga 12 - Colour Digitser Video Input [box contained 'faulty disks [write/read errors]' but no device, instead a Rendale 8802 FMC genlock with a broken 23pin RGB connector, so can't test]
3056434209 - Action Replay Cartridge - Amiga - Mark 4 [mk #1, faulty edge connector pins detached from solder, PCB very bad condition]

Basically I've paid you £120 for 5 items that are not what I believed to have auctioned on because
the descriptions you gave were not correct and consequently misleading.

Your friend obviously hasn't tested any of these items, otherwise you'd had known they didn't work.

Please let me know what you would like me to do??

I accept your apologises and can see from feedback you are good ebayer. I genuinely believe you
thought to be auctioning these items in good faith and in working order.

I was an IT Hardware Technician for 7 years and I've specialised in the Amiga since 1990 and even
run my own website [www.amigarealm.com] so I am fully aware of the ins and outs of this computer and
its peripherals.

Although I could repair some of these items, apart from the cosmetic side; I feel it is only fair that
an agreed amount of money be refunded via paypal for the unnecessary inconvenience and disappointment,
as the £120 spent on these items can not be justified by their poor condition.

Paul Andrews.

Email #3:

3056853656 RARE Commodore MPS 1270A - Immaculate  £5.50 [shipping £8.00] [being serviced by friend]

3056434497 Amiga A590 20MB Hard Disk + Extras £42.00 [shipping £8.00] [can be repaired]

3056434411 Amiga 500 External Disk Drive - Immaculate £21.00 [shipping £5.00] [works ok]

3056434344 Amiga 12 - Colour Digitser Video Input £10.00 [shipping £6.00] [wrong item]

3056434209 Action Replay Cartridge - Amiga - Mark 4 £9.00 [shipping £3.50] [doesn't work]

Total Goods = £87.50
Total Shipping = £30.50
Total = £118
Total via Paypal =  £121 @ 4%

After inspection of goods I'd be prepared to pay = £35
Actual Total Shipping = £9.23 Royal Mail [Difference of £21.27]
New Total = £44.23

Difference = £73.77

Never heard from him again.

Wow!  Really?  I got stung by him early on, like you, before he had any negative feedback.  I'm still waiting on my item.  Wish this thread would have been around back then.  :-P

I never had a problem with r_waters.  I've bought a few things from him over the years.  Shame if he's gone bad.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

He didn't die, I've dealt with him recently.. I can only speculate why he's been a poor eBayer lately.. He got me on 7 auctions for memory I was selling.. He begged for me to withdrawl my refund for a final value fee or else eBay was going to yank his account and he offered to at least pay the final value fee. I agreed and he actually paid it(only the final value fee). It looks like that didn't help much because he ended up getting a landslide of other negative feedback and is no longer a registered user. I can only speculate he is having major personal problems. His emails to me were polite and sincere enough... I dunno...

Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Well... my last email to him was a good 2 weeks ago and I told him (paraphrase): Look, obviously something is going on with you personally. You've always been a real ebay pro in the past. Just let me know what is going on with my auction and send it out when you can.

Anyhow after several emails..and maybe because I had yet to post negative feedback (simply forgot  :-) ) He decided to make good on the deal. But yet still no email or note in box explaining why. I'm assuming he is playing catch-up and is firing out stuff to customers. I gotta tell ya guys..just like red said, he is very professional and easy to talk to usually..very strange.
