Yes, you should watch it.

It might be dated visually now, but I remember it very fondly and thoroughly enjoyed it the first time through.

If you don't like it... stop watching it :) Lifes too short and you simply may not like that sort of series, but if you don't give it a try then you could miss out on a series that people are still fanatical about after all these years.

As an aside, I went to an ECTS show many year ago when I was a measly student with a made up company ID badge. I got to wander around the show floor and chat to developers on the no-public days :)
At one stand was a 3D space shooter, as I got closer I realised it was the Babylon 5 game that was in development! It was guarded by a guy who was meant to be showing it off to developers and publishers but I think he clocked that I probably shouldn't have been there... and gave me all the talk anyway, it was great, visually impressive for the time and flying along b5 itself in a Starfury was really cool. I walked away from that very happy :D

After studying the subject at length as well as the posts in question I believe that your grasp of the concept is lacking. Posting the same comment twice and expecting readers to assume the second was irony is incorrect. Also stating that "Americans don't" get irony when said posting was infact not ironic is also incorrect. A cross reference of cited materials shows clearly that a cutural bias towards or against irony is inferred primarily from a cultural basis. A study of current and past American periodical and literary reviews shows significant ironic element which may or may not translate to other cultures or literary frames. The postings in question are best understood perhaps as a misplaced attempt at humor or possibly other input would indeed place such a statement firmly in the realm of troldom as defined by contemporary, online participants.

For further information please see my 16 volume works on confounding societal concepts including not only irony, but also sarcasm, lying, jokes and their intellectual componants, and others.

Unfortunately you haven't read between the lines.

After my first post, I was called a troll.  Ironically, I responded to the accusation of being a troll (by repeating the original message) which actually appeared to some like i was an actual troll.  Ironically.

Americans do have a reputation of not getting Irony.  For instance, rain on your wedding day is not ironic - that's just bad luck.

It would be ironic for it to rain on your wedding day if the person you were to marry, was someone you stole from someone else and to add insult to injury, had invited said broken heart, who was once your best friend to the wedding.

Irony is just a simple twist of fate. Here's another scenario. Assuming it was an outdoor wedding and after it stopped raining, the party in question realizes what a no good douche you are, looks over and spies their ex lover all dripping wet like(some people like that look), falls in love all over again and decides to go ahead and marry their original mate, right in front of you and everyone else. Now that would be really ironic! lmao

Oh and B5 is definitely worth watching. Seaquest - not so much (another Amiga special effects farm fest).

perhaps you should read between the lines, i was using irony. i "get" irony but through a big long convoluted post i show that I dont actually get irony. Kindof like a sign saying I cant afford a sign.

rain on your wedding day, you are generalizing americans based on a song? If every single day was beautiful and the one day you wanted to be perfect it rained that would be ironic. and bad luck. I was joking with all those citations but maybe you might want to click on them...all of them.

btw it would be ironic to post "I can't be a troll since I have never posted anything here" or something to that effect. repeating your post even with a smiley might be funny but not ironic.
unless i am actually getting it all wrong
Course we can overlook that since the Irish dont get irony :o

-> TheGoose, as most others have already posted, B5 is well worth watching.

...sorry, I really have to type this...

-> Tension, ya might wanna expand your original statement as to why you think B5 is what you say it is with constuctive critisim and not just an off the cuff remark.
Until you are able to produce story/screen play with character development, music and special effects and all the other things that make a series that has won several awards and has a huge following, you need to keep your comment to yourself.

Short version, STFU! ;)

B5 was pretty slow to start, but I was definitely hooked by the last episode of season 1. It petered out for me after Season 3, since they managed to wear out the Oh My Gawd! (OMG) factor.

But I think B5 brought some interesting changes to the television sci fi scene, the chieftest being a definite lifespan for the series. I like the idea of a begginning, middle and end for the show -- and shows that have since copied it -- simpley because there were some shows (like the Next Gen) that should have been put out of my misery a lot sooner than it was. :)

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

Babylon 5 is a bit like Doctor Who, you don't really want to like it, and there are bits and pieces that make you want to give up, but in the end I watched it all the way through.  It's genuine and real somehow in a way that the Battlestar Galactica remake only pretends to be.  Watch it, enjoy it.
