The OS3.9 emergency disk never worked for me, it hangs after displaying 'invalid resident.library'. I used your answers in another thread to no avail. I've got the 68040/060 (Ive got the ppc installed now) libs on disk aswell as the correct workbench.library. I dont understand how this would have changed my case though, would it have made HDToolBox display the correct disksize?

You can't use OS 3.9 with Kickstart 3.0 ROMs.

See the last item here: http://www.gregdonner.org/os39faq/installtips.html

Upgrade your ROMs (to 3.1) and try again.

I have kickstart 3.1 roms. You know, I expected a fun return to the Amiga scene. I expected things would be better and software/hardware would have evolved somehow. I guess I was wrong. OS4 doesnt even boot without startup-sequence. Its dissapointment after dissapointment. Havent had a fun moment in days. Perhaps WinUAE is better after all.

well .... the hardware you are using, can't be "evolved" by itself, beeing 10-15 years old (well amigas are "special" but not at that point)

the main problem (no offence) is the crossposting thing. It turns things in a mess.

Now is up to you where to continue this help request, because in this way, is very hard to help you further.

I really doubt that is the issue. I do appreciate all the help I got, though. dont get me wrong. I've just had enough for now. Things shouldnt be this complicated. It puts people off, for sure.

your fault .... to ask help for installing an operating system (3.9) and then install another one (4.0), it doesn't help you nor us trying to help.

Anyway, give the whole thing a rest for a bit and try again tomorrow :-)

agreed, but hey, I want to install both anyway. I think its better to stick with FFS for now. reformatting and giving it a try in a few days time.

Thanks again.
