Netsurf V3.0 Amiga release 2
« on: November 18, 2009, 01:58:33 PM »
has anyone tried this release of NetSurf for 68k yet?

I downloaded it from Aminet, installed it but it doesn't work for me. I'm running it on a CS MKII 060 128MB ram, CV643D, ixemul62.1, AFA_OS.

Is there an error message? Do you run your workbench at 32-bit depth? I think you need to or else it will open up a full screen 32-bit depth screen...which has to be available in your screenmode prefs...

you dont need 32 bit screen depth anymore with this release. window on 16bit will work too. what doesnt mean it doesnt work? does it open the window?

maybe these fonts are missing:

i think readmes are not quite up to date. copy djavu fonts into progdir/fonts directory.

artur,
very cool work, it is actually bypasses already beyond my expectation if not for speed, but this isnt solvable i think, at least not so easy.

but what concerns youtube and other pages holding streaming content netsurf is eating up my whole ram on a4k while it doesnt show even much of the page, what would execuse it. might it be it already tries to load some complete stream into the ram before displaying it?

Indeed correct sir! Installed fonts and woohoo netsurf running fine with a 16bit screen depth. Excellent!

i look now at ram usage more.I have 256 megaybte of ram but when i go to youtube video page i have then only 70 megabytes free.i test some pages i fint in the mainpage currently and this page eats lots mem

I have no idea whats problem, can you look if OS4 Version do the same, i guess its a netsurf general problem.

@bernd_afa
It may be cache problem. Netsurf team is working on it.
I have found that on youtube page if I press reload
ram is freed back.

Netsurf is truly awseome for 68k. Ive just installed it on amikit and it works great, not the quickest but at least I can now access CSS web pages, the most important of which for me is  A.Org, and they look like they are meant to.  I can now post to A.org from within a 68k enviroement without having to fire up the peecee. This really is excellent work.

Cool, thank you! :)

Question:

Is it possible to get it going without afa running? If I try, it doesn't load, just a window pops on the screen for a split second. Maybe it's a fonts issue? (Though Netsurf-ttf 2.1 works juts fine.) SnoopDOS provides no clues.

Anyhow, fun to see this run on an A2000. On real 68k, the speed is entirely reasonable considering the hardware IMHO.

Yes, NetSurf runs even *without* Afa_os. Just copy the dejavu fonts in netsurf fonts directory http://dejavu-fonts.org/wiki/index.php?title=Download

@Artur:

Have u found some helping hand who can help u doing a MUI version ?

Yeah, the fonts have to be there for it to work either way it seems. No problem with afa running, but without it doesn't start.

On my Workbench 3.1 setup *without* Afa_os, NetSurf works perfectly.
Try to put your workbench on a RTG screen with 16 bit depth, instead of leaving the workbench on native screen.

with the youtube pages need lots mem problem, i suggest that not run out of mem the whole amiga system to enable in ixprefs program "watch available mem" and "catch failed allocations"

then when there is less than 2 megabyte free a ixemul program show a requester that you run low on mem.You can thentry to free memory from other tasks and try again.

Its recommend to do this for all tasks but If you dont want it for all tasks you can then add a task in the blacklist

I'll fiddle with it some more, but I normally use a 16-bit RTG screen. The odd thing, it doesn't even load - I click the icon, there's a barely perceptible flash of a window, then nothing. I edit the startup-sequence to enable afa, and it works perfect.

Must be something stupid I'm overlooking. :)

*edit* ooooh, I think I know what it is ;)
