Hyperion has a licence for OS3.1, but it is the sole owner of AmigaOS4.

Truism, I suppose I should have specified I was referring to Amiga Inc IP.  Question is who are the "owers" of this new Hyperion?  AI/Itec got something out of this deal, I do not think that boot has dropped yet.

Let's hope we don't and they fade into the sunset and Hyperion brings out OS5 sooner than later.

Its not so much who wins, but what will they do?
I have stuck with the Amiga scene ever since 1983, and no matter how close I have come in the past will still not get rid of what I own. So now I just hope and prey that they will do some thing positive for the Amiga, the Amiga needs it badly, if they are not going to do any thing positive then dont do any thing. I know very well its early days yet as the case has only just come to its conclusion. But I do so hope they will make the Amiga a modern fast reliable system. I keep my fingures crossed.................Mike.

Varthall

And the sole owner of "AmigaOS" and all it forms on any hardware platform in the future.  No one else can use the name AmigaOS.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Amiga OS 4.0 Powered Netbook anyone?

We all know with modern browswer support this would be the perfect little os running on SSD. It's pretty funny both Apple and Microsoft have actuvley worked to reduce the size and overhead for their OS's due to customer grievances. Here is this little OS lying dormant that can be positione to capatilize on this.

This is awesome news. Now AInc isn't out of the picture yet. But at least Hyperion has firm ground to stand on!
A posting a day keeps the sanity away...

well, its nice to see this come to a close. Cross fingers we may see a move to x86 hardware in the future but at least there's some closure now and we can look forward

An OS unburdened with a choice of apps, memory protection or drivers...

@Painkiller,

Would be great if they all joined forces (and resources) to push for a genuine x86-based Amiga OS...

"Dream, dream, dream..." :-)

Now if we can just get some hardware with modern specs I will happily buy a new amiga system with os4.x.

Yeah - please Hyperion, support one core of this beast initially and then develop AmigaOS towards multicore support and 64 bit architecture:

I refuse to spend so much money on a computer with 5 or 10 year old specs, and I suspect alot of people feel exactly the same.

...

I don't want a tip calculator or a snowman maker, I want a new amiga platform thats worth buying and using. AINC is a joke, thankfully Hyperion is here to hopefully save the future for us.

...

Lets hope those leeches who deserve nothing don't get too much money riding the backs of hyperion, they don't deserve a dime if you ask me.

Fully agreed...

Hyperion won because they got what they needed. What we dont know is what the other party got in the settlement so it is probably win-win to both parties and they are friends again.

Well, we know they got out of it without being sentenced.

What makes you think this? Try to remember how things were before the lawsuit. If anything this will only further drive the OS4 camp away from the classic, AROS and MOS camps. After all, OS4 is "teh TRUE Amiga" with this settlement and now the Amiga name can once again be brandished against all others who are merely "Amiga-like".
