The letters on the keyboard were covered with some "stuff" from the factory to prevent them from rubbing off, I imagine.  The dye didn't seem to bond with this stuff, and so it was removable just by pulling on it with tape.  The removal of the dye exposed some of the original color of the keyboard as well as the original letters, so like I said, not perfect, but usable.  You're actually seeing the original letters with an aura of beige.

As for printing on the fronts of the keys, that text is lost.

This method is definitely no replacement for using CDTV keys if you want a pretty keyboard, but I'd already used a set of those on my 1200 and figured I'd try something else.

There was plenty of vinyl dye on eBay available last time I checked, the kind I used came in a spray can.

Wow that really looks so cool, I didn't realize you could accelerate an A500.

There were quite a few accelerators. Some sat in the 68000 socket and some in a sidecar expansion.

The Progressive Peripherals PP40-500 was the daddy though. It was phenomenally expensive as I recall. It gave you more CPU horsepower than your A500 could know what to do with.

Eating an Amiga 500 for breakfast has been causally linked to ulcerative colitis, hemorrhage, death and other discomforts.  Consumption of Amiga 500 for breakfast is not recommended by 4 out of 5 dentists surveyed.

Eating non-accelerated A500s causes need for rough corrective operations.

Very nice :D

My 500 plus has a CSA MMR with 33MHz 030 and 50MHz 882, 8MB 32 bit ram, 512KB SRAM for kickstart shadow, Supradrive XP (with 2mb  of ram in there) and 2MB chip ram.

It's thinking you need more to eat it for breakfast ;) .

The PPA 040 would be superb.  There's something great about accelerating old skool stuff: was trying to sort my 1000 out, but as I have a problem with the KS adaptor I sorta failed at the first hurdle!

Nice paint job!

It's nice to push the A500, haven't tried it with the '030 yet but WHDLoad was pretty usable before I got it (when I had a 68010 in there.)  Lack of AGA is the only thing keeping it from being the only Amiga I'd need for games, I think.

I have 3 A500's running with the following:

  • GVP A530 (68030/68880) WB 3.5
  • VXL 30 w/Supra x500 (68030/68880) WB 2.04
  • A590 WB 1.3
First 2 are connected via PARNET cable. I have actually surfed the net with the A530, although I don't bother anymore, as the flicker fixer is hooped, and I can only use it with a 1084 monitor now.

The tower idea is intriguing. Can an A1000/2000 keyboard be used with these if I try to out one of these in a tower?

My original idea was similar except a rtg card via Slingshot and Apollo A520 accelerator but the salesman persuaded me to this solution...

Well, as long as we're comparing A500's. Mine has a Viper 530 accelerator clocked at 50MHz with 32MB Fast and 2 MB Chip RAM. CF-IDE 1GB drive. :)
