Very nice, tell us a bit about it. I noticed the VXL030 but what else do you have in it? I assume you have a megAchip or minimega because it looks like you have just under 2meg chip. What sidecars are those? How have you connected it to the monitor/TV?

Also what paint did you use and how did you do the keyboard lettering?

The public needs to know... :-D

An A500+ with VXL and ram board as well as sidecar controller, all painted black. What's so special about it besides the black paint?

My original idea was similar except a rtg card via Slingshot and Apollo A520 accelerator but the salesman persuaded me to this solution...

It's still not too late to rollback to original idea.
I mean, this rocks too, but towerizing A500 get it close to A2000...

@thread
I can already see a nice project involving installation of Indivision ECS under that VXL...did anyone said clockport ?

Pah, I knew a guy that had an A500 with a Progressive Peripherals 33MHz 68040 board. That thing would kick yours into touch :p

500+ motherboard, sidecars are SupraDrive 500XP (2gb) and SupraRam 500RX (8mb), but I'm going to attempt replacing the external drive setup with a CFIDE68K unit, if I can shoehorn it in. (Of course, then I'll have a black SupraDrive lying around...)  One other item that's hidden is the 3 Kickstarts on one chip (1.3, 2.0, 3.1,) selectable by a 3 position switch.

Krylon Fusion on the 500 case, Rustoleum enamel on the sidecars (they're metal,) and vinyl dye on the keys.  The lettering is the original lettering, the vinyl dye didn't stick to the protective coating on the letters well and came off easily with adhesive tape.  Not perfect, but neither were the decals I tried.

System is hooked up to the VGA monitor using a fairly expensive unit (blows standard Amiga external scandoublers away,) http://www.tvone.com/1t-pc1280hd-main.shtml

Indivision ECS is definitely on the list if it'll fit in there.

??? How are those the original letting decals?  They were black on the beige keys.  How did dye and adhesive tape turn them white?  (And what exactly is vinyl dye, and how did you apply it?)  I'm liking the look of the keyboard.

The letters on the keyboard were covered with some "stuff" from the factory to prevent them from rubbing off, I imagine.  The dye didn't seem to bond with this stuff, and so it was removable just by pulling on it with tape.  The removal of the dye exposed some of the original color of the keyboard as well as the original letters, so like I said, not perfect, but usable.  You're actually seeing the original letters with an aura of beige.

As for printing on the fronts of the keys, that text is lost.

This method is definitely no replacement for using CDTV keys if you want a pretty keyboard, but I'd already used a set of those on my 1200 and figured I'd try something else.

There was plenty of vinyl dye on eBay available last time I checked, the kind I used came in a spray can.
