Ehehehe, I originally planned to make an update every 30-60 days, but AROS vitality is great these days, so I had to modify my original plan.

@paolone

Quick question. Why do you need to include updated drivers if this runs in a virtual environment?

Oh I see. I didn't realise it was a distribution. I just thought (going by the name... how silly of me  :roll: ) that it was for virtual environments. Maybe a name change for the non VM version is needed?

No, maybe *reading* what's written on websites is needed.

Perhaps you should listen to constructive criticism.

I have been interested in AROS for years and downloaded a few of the distros, but always ignored this as I believed it to be a virtual machine.

The internet is a big place and we all only have limited time.  It is therefore important to set aside arrogance and listen and perhaps name things accordingly.

Just how many other people have ignored this due to a misconception?

Anyway, I have read your site and it says you need a 12x cdrom, but it also says it is a DVD iso?  Which is it?

I should also say that your efforts are miraculous and I thank you for your continued effort.  Just don't take things personally.

@paolone

Sorry but as has just been posted VMWAros means to me VMWare Aros. Only by reading posts by you do I now know it isn't VMWare any more... Let alone that it comes in Live! and VE versions which is even more confusing.

Instead of telling people to go read the website, why not think "Hmmm... here is someone confused by the naming of my product. Are there others who have yet to say anything like him? Maybe there is an issue?" And then investigate?

Afterall what Aros needs is more users. Your product enables people to try/use Aros very easily without much fuss. Putting potential users off with 'off the cuff' remarks and poor naming is self defeating.

Come on guys, give Paolone a break - he is doing a great job with the distro and don't read too much into a one-line reply with a light hearted comment.

I agree that a prettier name could eventually be found, but this will not happen overnight: the name has a history and a large investment that goes with it (website, domain, etc.). I personally find it romantic that it also manages to convey the distro's humble beginnings.

He is doing a fantastic job, but i'm trying to give a bit of constructive criticism. Not slag him or his work off. Even if he has not intentions of even considering changing the name, a simple "Thanks for the comments" would have been better.

I agree: it is not very easy to realize what VmwAROS is
For example:
Is it a virtual machine only ?
Do i need to install(buy?) some kind of virtual machine to make it works?
Does it need a CD burner or a DVD burner ?
And if i dont have a DVD burner ?

===> need a FAQ :-)

I have been a hardcore Amiga user since 1985.

I have read the VMWaros website several different times over the last several months and each time I walked away dazed and confused.  VMWaros seems to need and not need VMWare which is free and not free but that is okay because it works and does not work with and without VMWare on a plain or not plain PC.

 :crazy:
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

Sorry, but I simply don't understand where is the problem. VmwAROS stands for 'virtual machine with AROS' but gives lot of freedom to the users. The project started as a VM for VMware (yes) but in the meanwhile it evolved in a complete distribution which:

- can run on top of real hardware (live!)
- can run in a window in Windows (live!, formerly 'exe')
- can run in a pre-installed VMware virtual machine.

That is.

I don't pretend to wear something on my head while downloading 'Red Hat' ;-)

In the meanwhile VmwAROS has got enough popular and a name change would be even more misleading. Not counting issues with internet domain and so.
