Sorry, but I simply don't understand where is the problem. VmwAROS stands for 'virtual machine with AROS' but gives lot of freedom to the users. The project started as a VM for VMware (yes) but in the meanwhile it evolved in a complete distribution which:

- can run on top of real hardware (live!)
- can run in a window in Windows (live!, formerly 'exe')
- can run in a pre-installed VMware virtual machine.

That is.

I don't pretend to wear something on my head while downloading 'Red Hat' ;-)

In the meanwhile VmwAROS has got enough popular and a name change would be even more misleading. Not counting issues with internet domain and so.

I have read the VMWaros website several different times over the last several months and each time I walked away dazed and confused. VMWaros seems to need and not need VMWare which is free and not free but that is okay because it works and does not work with and without VMWare on a plain or not plain PC

You just need to understand that "VmwAROS" offers two different "products", the former called Live! and the other VE. They are based on the same technology, but aimed to do different things.

What part of that product is virtual?

Maybe the part that you launch, after extracting the .7z archive, clicking twice on the "win32-start" or "win64-start" icons?

The more you're talking, the more I suspect you haven't ever seen what you're talking about, nor you haven't informed yourself. So this discussion is totally pointless.

@paolone

But isn't that totally the point. People aren't even downloading and trying cause they are confused. Look if you intend to keep ignoring these comments then fine, that is upto you, your software, you do what you like.

The AROS appeal is limited and there must be people like us that are finding the naming confusing and are being put off. Instead of fighting the comments try to understand that there maybe a real issue here. We aren't just saying it cause we want to argue with someone. I WANT AROS and VmwAROS to succeed. I REALLY DO!

Really? For now I got thousands of downloads for the Live! and VE versions, and 3 people whining 'cos they have been 'misleaded' by the distribution name. I can agree to the fact that 'vmwaros' is a little confusing, but I don't feel the need for a name change. Moreover, what name should I choose right, then? And, finally, since VmwAROS has appeared on dozens of websites and printed magazines, why should I change a relatively well-known brand with a new one?

Ok, so if one were to describe "VmwAROS Live!" as "VmwAROS for Microsoft Windows" then that would be 100% accurate?

Ok, you obviously don't see a big enough need to change. That's fine as I say it is your software. Good luck with future developments. I will continue to follow how you get on.

Posiblities:
VmwAROS = AROS for VMware
RmwAROS = AROS for Real Machines = Native AROS
RmwAROS = Real Machine With AROS
WinAROS = AROS for MS Windows = "VmwAROS Live!"
or maybe "WinAROS Live!"

You can keep the same domain and website.
You can keep advertising VmwAROS.
When people go to your website, you are allowed to advertise other products, such as WinAROS and RmwAROS.

The above proposed solution would completely unconfuse me. And probably thousands of others.

Oh well.  At least he did change the requirements to "fast DVD dive" after my comment.

Shame he couldn't acknowledge it here.

Think I'll give this distro a miss.
