PPC space game silumations
« on: October 22, 2003, 07:13:28 PM »
Does anyone remember in AmigaFormat (or CU Amiga) there was a feature every month about the progress of a 3D space game for the PPC Amiga.

Can anyone remember it? is there a website about it?

There was a couple of amiga space games being developed around the time of napalm being made, but still dont know if these game ever got made. does anyone know?

also gilbert goodmate and mushroom of fungoria (or whatever its called) got made for the PC, i thought this was supposed to be an amiga game? :-(  :-?

heeeeeeelp!!!! so many questions!!!!

The website is here. However, I don't know if the game is still being developed, because the site has been updated since 20th January 1998

the space shooter/sim is "LAMBDA"  and yes it has a website.

(search in google)

gilbert goodmate (prelusion) was supposed to come as an amiga game , but bubble heroes sold so bad that crystal software died and left prelusion without a publisher etc so they abandoned it and woke it up for pc abit later, it might come when there is a market but prelusion still seems to be far away from amiga friendly ;(  , anyway there is a demo of the old 2d style on aminet (of gilbert goodmate) ..note that this is before it was worked over to a monkey island 3 clone (gfx wise)

and the last game , was released but it was crap :D , starfighter d'yammen reign .

several others might have been in the mags also , like Voodoo Wars which is atm canceled (frozen) while they wait "atleast" for a stable market.

carmageddon vanished as soon as it came (but there still is an regged liscense for an amiga version)

other than that.... dunno...ask more :d

cheers

Hi m8,

explorer 2260 was the one i remember, they looked so good. Looking at Homeworld, these games back in the late 90s had the same looks and if were made would have given the amiga some seroius clout.

aaaah world of "ifs and buts"

cheers buddy, looking online now to see if these beauties are about

Lambda is dead on Amiga.

Its' descendant lives on PC, but the project is not really close to release.

My Search for Explorer 2260 isnt bringing up any hope. However Lamdba is bringing some good news (ish)

http://www.illuvatar.demon.co.uk/lambda/LMain.html

Here are screenshots and info from the official site, but also there seems to be links to download the game demos.

mmmmmmmm nice

did Quake 2 get ported to the amiga or was it just Quake 1?

Explorer 2260  is still being developed but for Linux only at the moment AFAIK, the mailing list is real quiet.. I'll forward this thread to the developer maybe he'll pop in.

Linux version? is it gonna work on WarpOS?

lambda and explorer 2260 still seem the most exciting games that were being developed.

in my opinion that is....

the last news regarding the game hail back in '99... 4 years ago... make your own conclusions   :-(

This is Chris, the lead coder for Explorer2260..

Seer is right, ATM it is Linux only and development is slow because I have a full time job and other responsibilities.  It is still in development, but there's not much to discuss, as the feature spec is fixed, it's just a matter of getting everything working and I'm working at my own pace and on other projects and my life. It'll almost certainly be open source, so when it is released it could be ported, but I can't promise timelines or how hard it would be to port (in any event, it will need a hardware accelerated complete OpenGL 1.3 implementation, maybe OpenGL 2 for some things.)

As for why it has taken several years, don't go there. I really don't want to open old wounds.

Lambda is no longer developed for Amiga. New Lambda engine extensively uses DirectX and other Windows APIs, and thus it is not portable.
